Serviced the ol’ AS69RC in the 4500 Cab & Chassis today.

Not sure if the crossmember has been changed or if it’s a 4500 thang, but I was able to get a direct shot at those 4 pesky transmission pan bolts closest to the crossmember without even using a universal or swivel. Not lowering the crossmember was a huge timesaver over the same servicing of my previous 2014 RAM 3500 pickup w/AS69RC.

Truck is currently at 59,516 miles and 1,065 drive hours.

I bought a new pan gasket just in case (68214914AA) but I eventually ended up reusing my old one like I did on my 2014 RAM 3500.

The truck got an OEM sump filter (68224232AA) and 10.5 quarts of Mobil 3309.

As with all of my previous sump filter changes on the AS69RC, I received a P0868 code (Transmission Fluid Pressure Low). I cleared it with my cheapie code clearer and all is well.

White Lightning will be ready for another few thousand miles.

How much metal did you see in the pan? I recently serviced a friends 2016 with Aisin and was surprised at how much was in the pan. Didn’t know if it was normal or not.

Just did my 30K fluid change. Only got 7 quarts back in. if you drop the filter, does more fluid come out or?

I really didn’t see any metal in the pan, short of a very small amount of “fuzzy” material stuck to each of the four pan magnets.

I didn’t consider it anywhere outside of unusual as compared to my previous 2014 3500 in which I performed 6 sump filter replacements.

On a transmission that’s at operating temperature, one can expect to have a total refill of between 9.5 to 10.5 quarts.

Due to the pan shape, there’s about a quart of fluid that stays in the pan until it is removed. The remainder comes from popping the seal when removing the old sump filter.

The picture included here will show how the difference in pan depth at the sump pickup end vs. the drain plug end. Pic is an older one from one of the servicing of my ‘14 RAM 3500.

So we are supposed to do a fluid only change at 30,000 miles and a fluid and filter change at 60,000 miles?
I am loving my 4500. It now has 1,600 miles, mixed hauling, towing and driving. The exhaust brake is AWESOME, especially when towing and in tow/haul mode.

Oh boy, his transmission is making lot's of metal compared to yours and it isn't even towing much. I suppose we'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the picture.
