As my sig says, I have a 2002 2500HD 4x4 CTD 6-speed. It is the factory H. O. (245/505). It is basically stock. What would you guys do for the first Bombs? I plan on installing fuel pressure, EGT, and boost guages or course. I'm thinking an Edge Comp box perhaps.

What would you do if you were me? Due to budget constraints, I need to hold off on the clutch for now, so the Comp box is nice since I can keep her on 1 or 2 and let the stock clutch live for a while. I need ideas! I want my $$$ to be spent right.

Thanks!

I've basically just got the Comp box and I'm still waiting on a clutch, I've heard the 5 speed clutches are better than the 6's. I run my box on 5x5 quite a bit and haven't had a problem in about 40-50,000 miles of use. Bob's got a good point, leave the pump wire alone and avoid temptation and also keep the warranty intact. Dollars to doughnuts you can't beat a box for an easy upgrade and kick in the pants, besides that if your clutch does slip then you have a great excuse to upgrade it.

The idea is that you can tap the wire someday when you feel ready grasshopper, instead of buying an EZ and then deciding you need more power and then buying a Comp.

BC FMS Premium

I have only driven one truck with a Comp (mgoncalves) and it drove great even though I could not find 6th gear!

But I have a Blue Chip FMS Premium on my truck, somewhat equivalent to the Comp in add-on ponies but this has built in guages and is digital readout. It is adjustable from 1-63% fueling with 4 levels of smoke (rate of fueling) and I have run it full bore with no other engine mods yet, only slipping the clutch a few times.

Just wish it had timing! Oh yeah, the FMS also records highest boost, rpm, and EGT, but you have to pierce the pump to get it to work at all, since its fueling only, no timing.

Wouldn't injectors be a better bang for the buck on an HO? If you don't want HUGE power, then a set of Mach1's or even 275's would give you a good kick in the rear without putting any more stress on your fuel system. I would put some Mach1. 5's in there first (or even 275's if on a budget), then get an Edge Comp and leave the pump wire off and just use it as a boost fooler or maybe level 1 until you get a stronger clutch. With the stock turbo you'll have to leave the box on the lowest settings to control EGT's but later you can throw in a Dodgezilla or some other turbo and crank the box up... room to grow.

I ran the EZ box for 2 years and its a nice mellow box. I agree with the guys on here, just get the comp and don't pierce the wire until you want to. Then you don't have to upgrade at a later date. I'd have to say though if you do pierce the pump your clutch pry won't last long, nature of the beast.

It depends on which injectors you get. The nice part is, with an HO, you'll get more than the usual quoted HP for a particular injector, because most of those ratings are based on SO installations. You should get about 50HP from 275's. This could be done with no other modifications. You could go with a bigger injector, but would have to consider EGT's as the fuel goes up without added air. To get more air you need a boost fooler, but the comp would do that too. As long as you have gauges, you could probably run a EDM Mach 1-1. 5 or DD2 injector without any other mods as long as you kept your right foot under control, but once you get a box so the ECM doesn't throw a code from the higher boost, you'll be able to hammer it pretty good with no problems, although with the box turned up, you'll be in high EGT territory again. Just modulate with your foot, or get a bigger turbo and hammer it to your hearts content. :)

275 injectors will get you about 40 horse, DD1 will get you about 60 horse, DD2 about 80 horse, DD3 about 100 horse.

The Mach injectors will get you about the same but with less smoke and alittle more fuel milage.

I have heard that HO dodges respond better to injectors than boxes.

What about the TST Powermax 3 digital 2?

I don't think the TST does timing, is that right?

All I would need with this box is a fuel pressure guage.

D.D.

I've never driven a Comp, but just switched from an EZ to a TST - Power Max 3, adjustable. BIG jump in power. Level 2 is same as EZ. My understanding is the PM3 still plays with timing but does it thru the engine computer, instead of overiding the computer.

There has been some discussion lately about HO's blowing engines when towing (lightly) with heavy timing boxes and stock turbos. Many more knowledgable than I don't think it's the timing boxes but nobody seems sure?

I did DD2 injectors before a box-good punch but more smoke than I cared for. Box gives you ability to vary power.

If you don't have gauges yet, the Power Max 3 with built in gauges is a great money saver. The Comp is loved by many and must be excellent but I feel sure you would not be disappointed in the TST product either. Try some searches for lots of feedback on both brands.

Good Luck!

I would very seriously look a FAAS sysyem or other fuel delivery enhancement before using the Edge Comp... speaking from a bad experience, 20 minutes after installed on level 3... the VP44 was a goner... 3 weeks later, a new injection pump and lift pump and I was back to the starting over point...
