Purchased 01 2500 HO 6spd

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased my first diesel and I love it. I live in Kansas and am worried about our cold winters and my truck being parked outside as it will not fit in my garage.

Is there a factory plug in engine block heater or do I need to install one? I have looked but can find the plug. The previous owner was form w. Texas and did not knwo the answer.

Your help is appreciated.

I believe that the block heaters are standard - my '93 had it and my '08 has it. I park outside and the '93 was tough starting unless plugged in. 0-30 oil makes starting a lot easier at 40 below...

Thanks for the reply, can you point me in the direction to look. I have climbed all around looking for it and can't stumble upon it. Thanks for taking your time to help... .

It appears that the heater is located on the passenger side of the block twards the front and up higher. If you find it just track the wire from there to the plug.

Of course you might be missing the cord too. . H

The heater is standard, but the cord is an option... You can get them for anywhere from $8-$40.

Get a Mopar Winter Front... it's a radiator blanket and works GREAT.

Reference Genos you can also get am adapter that mounts to the bumper and seals when not in use - this picks up your extension cord and connects thru to the block heater harness. No more fishing around for the heater. As alternative to winter front grill plugs can be had aftermarket (Lund, etc) and these can be installed/removed piecemeal as weather changes.

Geno's garage also has a winter kit which includes radiator cover, battery blankets, cord with harness, etc. Pricey but look well worth it for what you might need. I plan on getting that set up for our lake effect (lake Erie) winters in western PA. Keeping your batteries warm is a really good idea too I think. Good luck!
