I have a 4. 7l '02 Ram gasser but I need to tow sometimes- and it just don't cut it. Through my research I have concluded thatI should jump to a diesel and so it is ordered and will be arriving in another month or so. The question I have for you TDR readers is: at times I will be towing a vehicle and my wife has informed me she wants to drive while doing some of the towing. In your experiences do these new diesel Ram trucks handle well enough to let the lady do the towing? Bear in mind, I will be motoring with my pride and joy X 2; one being the new diesel and the other my 2nd truck.

Please advise your thoughts, and while you are at it have a look at a couple pics of my 2nd truck. Can you identify its vintage? And, it is bombed? Maybe that diesel is next !

My wife has pulled a trailer BUT only when empty. Loaded I have reservations for her to do it. She seems to want to constantly brake late and that could be a recipe for disaster and I'm not willing to chance that. Plus she even admits negotiating turns is kind of tough but I'd say with a little practice the later would be easiest to overcome, now the braking I don't think she would.

gmattice, I guess you would be the only one qualified to answer the first question:rolleyes: !!As for your next question it appears to be a '55-'57 GMC or Chevy product (Apache??). Never saw a x-tended cab one before though!! Looks nice, how quick is it?? :D

My guess would be a 6-71 sitting on a 502~510 rat. and should clock about 10. 9 sec. If I remember right that would be order code IHRA from GMC, total stocker. :p

If she wants to do it give her a chance. Not many women want to do this. Give her a chance. Everbody is allowed one mistake. Two I would watch her more closely. Three and she is out. Like baseball three strikes and your out:D

My wife wanted her own Cummins. She hooks up the horse trailer

and pulls it all over California. All I can say is make sure the insurance is up and will cover anything you pull. She works for State Farm so... ... ... you know the rest. She does do just fine pulling the trailer. It is a 35 foot gooseneck Barrett.

Oh my gawd thats beautifull, what was the question again? ;)

Oh ya, she can do it, It just takes some getting used to like it did for us.

Count yourself lucky, I say; My Wife was a bit timid at first but with a little practice and experience I'm very much at ease with her pulling our 5th wheel. She's an expert using the exhaust brake in the mountainsand seems to enjoy it.

Some of you guys seem to be assuming your wife is stupid, a bad driver and unable or unwilling to learn. It's your wife so I won't comment on it. My wife can safely drive everything I own except, my Harley - Davidson which she isn't interested in driving, and tow any trailer or other assorted junk I can scrounge up. She has done so with all three one tons I have owned so far, all standard transmittions, all 10,000 lbs + welding rigs. She drives a lot better than many men(?) I see herding vehicles down the road. JTMcC.

I know several couples where I'm nervous when He's driving, but I'll fall asleep when She's driving.

I strongly suggest that if you are nervous about the wife driving, send her to class to learn, don't teach her yourself. Classes exist, and sometimes come free with the purchase of a trailer. She'll get professional, objective assessment of her skills. If she's lousy, you won't have to be the one to tell her. If she's better than you, sit back and let her drive.

IShultz, there are 9 players on a team, nine innings in the game and three outs per side in an inning. Players can expect to come up to bat three times in a single game. And that's in a no hitter.

What matters

Size and sex makes no difference, the truck does all of the work, the driver only directs it. Attitude and aptitude make the difference. I have training young men to drive fire apparati for over 10 yrs, some take right to it and some struggle with it, so far all have passed the state road test, but I wouldn't want to ride with some of them. Some people just don't have he aptitude and will never be proficient no matter how hard they try.

My wife is a good enough driver, but she doesn't want to try towing even though I tell her she needs to at least know how. As long as she doesn't want to try, I won't waste my time trying to teach her.

I guess my point is, give her a chance, unless you are afraid that she might learn to drive better than you. :D
