Been looking for a few months for a truck that could pull a 30ft 5th wheel. I was tied up looking at various years and was looking closely at a 2019 tradesman lvl2 4x4 long and short bed for about 43k. My father inlaw bought a brand new 07 crewcab short bed 4x4 5.9L and uses it to pull his 32' jayco eagle and has about 50k right now and has had great mpg and he hasnt had any issus and it seemed pretty simple, ie. No efr or dpf etc. I then looked for a 07 5.9 but was seeing crazy prices, i mean they were 32k new and i see people wanting 5-10k over book for 100k trucks. I really went back and forth and a 07 popped up pretty close. It was a trade in from a 1 owner and had 72k miles and was in the blue book range so i bought it. Ive read all about the g56 and i love driving it. Getting n-fab 3 steps in a coulle days, looking at a weather tech tool box, will certainly buy a pacbrake exhaust brake and most likely air bags.

Congrats, R, and welcome to the TDR. Sounds like you got a nice truck. Take care of it, drive it like you stole it, and it will serve you well for years.

Fantastic, and welcome aboard!
As soon as you’re settled, please look into a secondary fuel filter addition. This one item is the only thing Dodge skimped on when designing the truck. We will guide you and answer questions when you’re ready.
Enjoy!

Welcome to the TDR, the back issues of the magazine are available for download to members, also some good resources the buyers guide and perfect collection are good reads just for general knowledge.

Very clean looking truck. Enjoy.

TDR member Joesph Donnelly, wrote an excellent artical on the G56, with a well known expert "Richard Poels" from Standard Transmission. I don't remember the date or issue, but maybe someone will chime in on that artical information. I'll try to search for it and post it.

Im wanting to figure out how to add in the "secondary fuel filter addition". Ive also red alot on the g56 before buying it. I can do alot of the wrenching if need be. My tools right now are very limited, my property (3 houses left out of 40 on my street were lost, my main house survived but all out building and vehicles burned) was involved in the carr fire in northern calif and i lost all my tools, i had to itemize all of them, took about 3 months, im in the process of repurchasing the tools.
I also plan to install the pacbrake unit.

Thanks all!

So sorry to hear you’ve been involved in that wrath.
Being that your truck is a handshaker, you have room on the left side of the engine to do this. Some eliminate the factory filter and do other things, but if you’ll leave that one and add this kit I’m linking, and use the proper filters in both (source of debate) you’ll be fine, and you’ll be making a huge improvement to the truck’s long term health.

The secondary filter looks like it would go right where the pacbrake compressor would go, or vise versa :)

Yeah, these trucks need a good work out from time to time, baby them gives endless trouble.

Welcome!

The mighty Cummins puts Sheba (old girl) and Cleo (pup) to sleep pretty quickly. They love traveling and camping.

Enjoy the truck, camper, and your 4-legged pax.

Cheers, Ron

Congrats on the truck!
I believe there is an article from the TDR staff on adding a secondary filter under the cab on the frame rails! I am not sure on the issue but I would do a search for this in the website. Look at a catalog from Geno's garage for the filters and items that may help you on your truck. I purchase all of my filters from Geno's and other items from time to time.
I do have a secondary fuel on my truck form Glacier Diesel Power. I purchase the Big Line kit for my truck. I have attached a link for you to review: https://www.glacierdieselpower.com/...-2003-thru-2007-dodge-ram-filter-systems.html Also a pic's of the kit in my truck.
