Used Rig. Good Deal?

Need local diesel mechanic

It's not as bad as you might think, but not as easy as, say, boiling a pot of water. There is a post a bit earlier in this thread about putting a plastic bag over it to catch the oil drippings when you loosen it. Seems to be a great idea. Once you've done that, you can carefully snake it past the turbo and air intake hose on top, being sure to keep it upright so as not to spill it. I know it's a long reach down into the engine bay from the top, but I usually stand on a box that I put right up against the passenger side tire and this helps a lot. Also, when putting on the new one pre-fill it with oil before putting it on. This will keep the flow of oil through the engine continuous upon start up. It holds almost a quart on its own. Good luck.

First oil change went well, but could not find the "lube point". Thanks for the great photo, now have to go to auto parts store as my grease gun has the "old" fitting. Have used a zip lock bag for years changing filters, the furd is the only one that trick does not work on.

When you get the filter loose, put a plastic bag around it and the bag will catch any spillage from the filter. At least that is what I do.

Hey Mike, thanks for that tip... I'd never thought of it... silly how the simple things can elude you sometimes.

I changed my oil this past weekend and the bag worked well.

I don't use the fumoto I use the ez change drain plug and tube absolutely love it :D:D:D. It is so simple you just pull off the cover and install the hose no fuss no mess :D:D:D

I've had the Fumoto valve since 2002, installed it when I bought the truck new. Doing my own fluid changes since(oil, fuel filters, trans. an diff. fluids). Never had one issue with the valve, it is a great invention. You do not even get dirty at all.

Just did the same for my first Oil Change at 42K+as selling dealer supposedly did around 36K+. Removed Oil Filter was Chrysler and not very dirty - so hopefully that meant it was changed (and not the original factory one). New Fleetguard Filter and Fumoto drain from Genos with 3 Gallons of Shell Rotella T "Synthetic" (only CI-4 left around on shelves) in dusty jugs from Wal-Mart. I'm fortunate to have access to an Auto Hobby Shop with a lift that even handles my dually. The only hard part was screwing the new filter back on. Took several tries for some reason. Probably should have borrowed a shoplight besides the 12 inch socket extension from the tool bin...
Thanks to all the advice here and in the TDR magazine it went very well. Same for my Diff Fluid and Fuel Filter changes! Glad to be a new member!
