I'm sorry if this bores all you more experianced Cummins owners but I thought this might help other new owners. I'm sure this has been posted here before but my wife tells me I don't pay attention sometimes. #ad

After changing your fuel filter cycle the key a couple times (briefly crank, but don't start, the engine) to run the lift pump to fill the filter housing. Then start the engine. It may die. Crank on it some more. The manual says 30 seconds of cranking with 2 minutes of cool down time for the starter.
You see, mine started then died. I was all ready to crack the injecter lines and bleed them. I checked the manual first and just cranked on the starter some more. Like I said, I hope this helps out some other new Cummins owner.

I had the exact same experience last week on my first change. I was all set to start bleeding lines when I read in the service manual to crank it longer. That 10-15 seconds of cranking seems like an eternity when you're used to it firing up in 1/2 a second.

On my first fuel filter change the same thing happened. I let the lift pump run a few cycles then cranked the engine, it died. I thought I done messed up! I cycled the lift pump several more times, then cranked on it a while and it fired and kept running. Had me a little worried for a while.
