ok I need you pump exprerts input

is there enough fuel in the ve pump to turn twins and still let the pump live

just got a ht3b for cheap and am thanking of running the stock turbo with a 12 or 16 housing

I know this is not a great twin set up with the first gen turbo but if I have to later will go to a 35

I have pods in it know and am tired of the hi egt's this will manly be used the pull the lil red cummins drag truck what do you think

all in put welcome thanks George

With stock fueling... . NO

With a lot of fuel... YES

Ask greenleaf, he put twins on, but he wasn't happy at stock fueling because he could not spool the bigger turbo.

It will take quite a bit of work to get your truck up to the level where is could spool twins.

Don't get me wrong, our trucks are perfectly capable of puting out enough power to run twins, it just takes a little work and $$$.

CB other than turning the screws and thanking of geting the new metering pin forgot what it was called now and new gov springs what else can be done to the pump for fuel

I do have eveything but the fuel lines to put a p-pump on but I figure with the ve pump it will limit me so that I wont go to far with it lol

when towing I am driving with the egt gage and its starting to get old but cant stand to drive the truck with stock injectors or fuel setting LOL. so I was hoping to get another 75-100 hp and keep the egt in line with the twins but I dont want it to lag realy bad

West Coast jbolt is operating with the twin set-up. I'm still saving up for the PDR35 :)

The custom cut cone is perhaps what your thinking of. It really gives the truck a kick in the hind end :D

Over the last year, I have become convinced that the VE can and does accomplish more than any of us ever expected. The progress initially made by nascar mark, followed by Old Smokey, KTA Cummins, myself, my brother, Harry at PDR and others have proven that this "Little Brother" VE pump has some set of "stones".

If you have a healthy VE you can set it up to push twins...

It would be a perfect solution if you could use an ATS manifold and have some head porting done to improve flow characteristics to be sure,,, but it will drive a set of twins.

At present I am using a PDR HX35/16. I have done some porting on the exhaust manifold and hot end inlet of the exhaust housing.

Under normal around town driving I usually see 10 psi or less, with temps around 400*F - 600*F.

If I push it hard right now, I can see high temps of near 1600*F.

I would certainly benefit from and could drive twins with those temps and boost numbers of 47 psi currently. I can add another 8 psi boost if I open up the fuel screw more. At that level I am well into the negative area of high drive pressures though, and twins would work great to bring boost/egt's etc in line.

Pastor Bob.

thanks bob I have aournd 10 psi of boost under normal driving and 700 egt never held it out to she ho much about 1200 it will get it will peg the 30 psi boost gage everytime though

so it looks like will start setting up for the twins :D George

As for your questions. Get a better fuel pin (like from nascar mark or old smoky), get a custom cone, and shave down that spacer... forgot what it's called.

Another thing you could do is drill out your banjo bolts, put oversized fuel lines on, get a big pusher pump... etc.

Bob's right! There is one guy making almost 500 rwhp with a VE.

Another option is to get the "High Performace" VE pump from Piers, they tinker with them, although they won't tell anyone exactly how!

Just remember, EGTs are a limiting factor in most cases. The first priority in souping these trucks up is getting the air in and out with as little resistance as possible. Get a high flow air filter, get an aftermarket mandrel bent exhaust, port and polish (look in the BOMBing guide for details).

That help?

CB yea that helps I figure I will do all the easy mods to the ve pump. If I need more fuel than that I have 160 hp p-pump setting here and ever thing but the lines and injectores to install it but dont want to pull the front of the motor off.

I am running an afe mega cannnon for a filter.

a complete 4 inch mandral bent exhaust up to the stack pipe cross pipe then 4 inch box tubing to 4 inch stacks

I am not realy big on the bigger fuel lines onthe lil reds eng we lost 2 hp bye going with them

George,

I’m running a twin setup I built in my 93. So far I like the results but there is a lot more tinkering and tuning to do.

The small turbo is a HY35 and the big turbo is a BHT3E. The BHT3E is a reverse scroll from the HT3B and comes stock with a 23cm housing. The injectors I have now are EDMs. My guess is that they are comparable to the PODs I was running before but without the smoke issues. I have the fuel screw turned in about as far as I dare but from talking to BushWkr I’m not maxed out yet. I’m also using Oldsmokey’s fuel pin.

The VE will spool the bigger turbo but I still don’t have enough fuel to make enough heat to spool it as well as it could. EGTs are very low even at WOT. 0-30psi is normal under daily driving and I’ve made as much as 52psi getting on the highway at WOT. I’m de-fueling around 2600 rpms so there may be more.

To date my max EGTs have been 1050. That was a sustained 80+mph run up in the mountains at 35psi for 3-4 minutes. Most of the time the EGTs never exceed 900. The only trouble I’m having is the boost flattening out over 30psi. 0-30psi comes on quickly then slows up to max boost. I’m not sure if it is a fuel delivery problem or just not enough fuel altogether. I’ll know more when I get a fuel pressure gauge in. For the last two years I’ve been having some odd swings in fuel mileage so I may have pump issues too.

I set the HY35 up with a TurboMaster to control boost. Currently I have the waste gate locked shut. This has produced the best performance so far. If I had more fuel it might be useful. It has also been suggested to me to setup a divorced gate to use some of the unexpanded exhaust gas to help drive the big turbo.

At the moment I’m halfway through a 1200 mile trip. Drivability has been excellent.
