Keeno needs some First Generation HELP!

My truck will not Crank or Start!

The Battery isn't the problem... ... ... . It seems to be related to the Fuel Solenoid or Starter or Clutch Start Switch.

Known:

I have 12V @ both Blue Wires on the Fuel Solenoid. Terminals Clean & Secure. I have nice 'spark' from the Blue Wire to Fuel Solenoid W the Ign. Key in the run position.

Battery Up & Post Cleaned & Secure.

It Just won't CRANK... ... . Everything else electrical is working prefectly.

This problem has been intermittent over the past few days. I repaced all of the terminal connectors to the Fuel Solenoid. In the past if as played w/ the hot lead to the Fuel Solenoid it eventually started. I'm beginning to think it's somewhere else.

How does the Clutch "Depressed" Switch work on a First Gen?

KEENO

Keeno,

If it is not cranking at all, it probably is the starter contactsin the starter itself. These have been a problem in the past and there is a contact repair kit available for about $35 that has the contacts and a new plunger. I have one I carry with me and will install one of these days. The fuel solinoid has nothing to do with the engine cranking, it just wouldn't fire. Without fuel the engine sounds different when cranking, will crank over a little faster than usual.

I don't know about the clutch nuetral switch location, that would keep it from turning over as well if it was bad.

Your clutch switch should be on clutch pedal arm similar to brake light switch.

When you push clutch pedal down and turn key to start it allows power go to relay in pdc or straight to starter solenoid.

Do you have PDC on first generations?

Probably starter solenoid contacts, as noted above. You can unplug the clutch switch (look for wires coming out of a cylinder around the clutch linkage rod that goes through the firewall. ) Bridge the two leads on the connector and then check for juice to the starter solenoid. If the headlights dim, the starter may be locked up. If not, the starter contacts are probably bad.

Hope this helps.
