My Public Apology To Dexter Corporation

I just finished a 3300 mile round trip from Southern Calif to Eastern Idaho. I've made this trip in the past with my 2001 DRW CTD with the NV5600. This 09 with the 6 speed auto is a pleasure to drive. Most of the time I would just let the trans do it's thing. Trans temp never got over about 160 on any of the hills. I drove at about 65mph( about 1750 RPM ) and my calculated MPG was in the 9-10 range.

The MaxBrake is the only way to go if you want smooth brakeing. And the factory exhaust brake works as advertised. My old 01 was a good running truck but this 09 is the best.

10mpg is considered pretty good for the older trucks with no emmisions... ... ... that's exceptional mileage for a newer 6. 7 with that kind of weight!

Thanks for a good report. The new quiet new ISB6. 7s with six speed automatic don't provide the sound and feel of an '01 with NV-5600 but they sure are nice trucks.

In my experience the new trucks are not as fuel efficient running empty on the highway but they are about the same as early 24 valves loaded and pulling hard.
