Did my first mileage check today on the new pickup (see sig). I fueled up (made sure it was full) last night and left early this morning with a 2200 lb shop built car trailer (empty weight). Drove to Devils Lake to get a pair of sprayer booms (pickup idled for 30 minutes while being loaded, and headed back again. Didn't weigh with the booms, but they aren't heavy, maybe 1000 lbs. (so total trailer weight of 3200 lbs), plus my usual 500 lbs of "stuff" (tools, jacks, blocks, chains, etc) in the box. Got back home and overhead said 13. 6, fueled up... made damn sure tank was FULL, and hand calculated to 14. 7. Temps were in the 50's today, some hills, 15-20 mph wind from the NW, averaged 70 mph while driving. All in all I'm pretty pleased with these numbers, considering my previous pickup (2002 2500HD GMC CC, 6. 0 gas, auto) would have only got 8. 5-9 on this same trip), and that I've only got 1500 miles so far on the odometer.
So far I'm glad I went with the HO 305/555 and not the 600 if it means I can get 2-3 mpg more.
