I have a quick question / request. Does anyone know or can check to see if your wipers first move down on the windshield, then up? My company truck is doing this and I need to find out if this is right. I think my motor may be having issues. Does anyone have the part number for the assembly for an '02 with intermittent?

On rare occasions, my wipers will stop before reaching bottom. But normally, no, they stop at the very bottom.

If yours do this all the time, it is not normal. Most likely, it is a problem inside the motor with the contacts and relays that control power to the motor (like keeping power on until the wipers have reached the bottom). Worn linkage bushings would cause the wipers to be more jerky in motion. The motor unit should only mount in one position and shouldn't be adjustable. There is a remote chance the drive arm on the motor has slipped, but this is very remote.

most wiper motors that acted up for me were do to a dirty ground strap. Since the motors are rubber mounted the ground comes from a strap mounted on one of the studs. I don't know if these trucks are that way. Were the wiper arms removed? maybe they are off by one teeth on the splines? and on longer match the park position of the motor.

I am a mechanic for an Ag dealership and one of our big customers has 13 chevy snow plow pickup trucks. They have wiper motor failures ALL the time. I have seen on occasion, the drive attempts to install his own bad wiper motor after a huge pile of snow falls onto the windshield and wiper motor not strong enough to wipe it off. Improper installation of moving parts will make this happen. The timing of the wiper arms on the splines and timing of the wiper transmission(part that motor turns) may be off. Has work been done to these components or have did this start out of the blue. Check into wiper transmission and watch the motor spin all components inside covel/under windshield.

Dave

PS ~ Consistent down then up is rarely contacts in motor, rather the linkage of the splined knobs that turn wiper arm itself. the motor always spins in same circle, so consistent down is cam over type issue. If up/down is very erratic and not consistent, it is electric.

funny you say that, my truck is doing that... pretty sure the stop contacts are worn out, I just bought a Cal'i ebay unit. . I hope its a good one.

there are new ones on ebay cheap. . I just happened onto a Mopar piece and thought to chance it being good.

I think it has got to be in the transmission of the wipers. It does it every time down a little and then up. When the truck gets back from his morning run I'm going to pull the assembly to see if I can figure out any timing marks.

If that's all it does, you're lucky. The '71 Plymouth Suburban wagon I had, the wipers would park in the middle of the windshield and the left wiper would leave the windshield completely during the cycle. Best I could figure is the harness was wrong, forcing the wrong motor to be installed. I put the 'right' motor in and it behaved properly, but I had to apply a Presidential Solution to the switch and wiring to make it work right. A rheostat for infinitely variable speed and a 4-pole toggle switch for on, off and park. It worked pretty well. But it was most certainly a Presidential Solution.

I still think the internal contacts/relays in your wiper motor are misfunctioning.
