I just changed the oil for the first time (4600 mi) because I'm getting ready to head on vacation. I was able to remove the filter very easily from underneath, which I never did on my 2001. I can't remember why I never did it that way on the 2001, unless something was in the way. I always did it from the top, which was a little tricky. I used RotellaT and Stratopore filters. Slid a low-profile 5-gallon bucket right under the engine and drained away. Had to use a strap wrench and half-inch ratchet though, that sucker was WAY overtightened.

I noticed when I left work this morning that my overhead trip computer had all blanks except the compass heading. I tried the reset, etc. but it was still blanks. When I got home, I shut off the engine and then turned the key back on. This time the computer displayed normally. Hope that isn't a sign of things to come.

Also, the air conditioner compressor..... whew! When that sucker kicks in you can really tell it. On my last CTD you had to really pay attention to when it was kicking in. This one you can feel a distinct power reduction, plus a definite noise increase. I'm gonna do some research to see if they changed anything in that arena.

Just making some observations about my new truck that might be of interest to somebody else.

The overhead thing is normal and dodge not only knows about it but also doesn't care. They told me the data bus was busy and because of the low priority of the overhead display it doesn't get updated sometimes. They didn't explain why I have to cycle the key to fix it. What a crock of crap!

Thankfully it's only happened to me 3 or 4 times in 8K miles.

Tight!

You ain't kidd'en when you say that stock filter is tight! I had to work at it from the top and my buddy was underneither trying to get a filter wrench on there and we had to 'he man' that dang thing off there. Don't sweat the computer thing, it seems to be pretty common, just shut down and re-start and it will come back on line. But hey... this truck is so sweeeeet I can deal with a couple of minor engineering faults. Sure beats my old Power Wagon of yester year!
