First Oil Change

Being a first time owner with my 2005 CTD, I approached my first oil change with some trepidation after reading some of the posts about how the filter might be difficult to remove. Well, the first oil change took all of about 20 minutes. I used a cap style filter wrench I picked up at advance auto and the filter was removed with minimal effort. The oil pan drain plug also came out easily and was replaced by a sure flo drain fitting from fram to make future changes a bit easier. This is my first post on the forum but I have learned much from senior members. I have enjoyed browsing the various forums and must say that I am proud owner and a happy one at that.

Congratulation on your first oil change. It wasn't so bad now was it? What brand of oil and filter did you use? How many miles did you have for your first oil change. I hope you filled your oil filter before you spined it on. Grizzly

When the new style truck came out in 2003, we heard all kinds of horror stories about the smaller engine compartment and how hard it would be to change the oil. I find it easier to change the oil in my new truck than in my 2000 model. Of course Jeff Hardwick's handy-dandy filter wrench makes a HUGE difference. Thanks again, Jeff! Yep, don't let the oil change scare you away from a new truck, just get the right tools!

I changed oil first time at 2750 miles. Used Delo 400. Filters were from Geno's garage. Looked the same as the Mopar that was on the vehicle. Yes, I remembered to put a quart of oil in the filter.

The 01's were REAL BAD. Mine took close to 3 hours to get the filter off. Finally we tore the body off and tore up the bottom of it so bad that all that was left was the mounting ring and inner tube. Broke the tube and finally used a chisel and hammer and spun the rest off. That filter had to be gunned on dry I swear!

:-{} My first oil change was great..... I put on the oil filter without adding oil to it. To many years of doing that with the gassers. No noises on startup,,,,, I may not be able to sleep tonight. :-{}
