I have been running the Valvoline synthetic for at least 15 years now bought right from the Cummins dealer. No problems. It's what Cummins uses at the factory, so why wouldn't I trust it is my theory.
We just got a new 2015 3500 and I have been debating on what oil to use. It appears that the new trucks ship with Valvoline Premium Blue synthetic. This is based on the fact that they do not know what climate the truck will be delivered to. Specs for -0 degrees and up call for 5W-40 synthetic. Above zero degrees they spec 15W-40 dino oil.
I had starting using Shell Rotella T in the 2001.5 and B150's in the boat in the last couple of years based on the fact that is well rated and reasonable in price. Enter WM and Delo 400 LE for $12.95 a gallon! So three gallons of Delo are sitting in the garage ready for "Cherry's" first oil change. SNOKING

I use 15-40 Valvoline Premium Blue.
I watch the Napa ads and stock up when it hits $11.99 a gallon. This only happens once or twice a year so I keep at least 2 oil changes ahead.
If I were running the extended oil change intervals that the new trucks allow I would only use the 5w-40 synthetic. The old emissions system keeps me at 5000 mile intervals.
