OK here it comes. I am getting ready to do my first oil change in my 03 HO 4X4 Auto, it will have 3000 miles on it ,I need to to know if I should use the factory filter or some other one. I picked up Rotella oil is this a good oil to use:confused: Thanks Mike ########################################## 03 HO 4X4 Quad Cab Atlantic Blue 3. 73 Smitty Built stainless steel tube steps,RBW Lil rocker 5th wheel.

I have used Rotella for many years and never had a problem, and if you travel you can get it anywhere. Many of the members here use it as well. It is a very popular oil.

Mike:

Regarding your filter choice, I would use either the Mopar filter or if you are able to get it the Stratapore by Fleetguard which is a subsidiary of Cummins. The Fleetguard filters are less pricey than the Mopar and in actuality the Mopar is merely a relabeled Fleetguard.

Geno's Garage has some very attractive filter prices if you cannot find Fleetguard locally.

Hope this helps!

Mike

P. S. You can't go worng with Rotella, Delo 400, Valvoline Premium Blue or Velvac oils.

I agree with the above posts. There are several excellent oils, but I happen to use Rotella. . as I did on my 2001 CTD. I also use Stratapore filters from Geno's at a great price.

Check around for a "big rig" service/repair shop. They're usually not that hard to find, and I've never seen one that didn't carry Fleetguard fuel and oil filters. Buy the best... . Fleetguard Stratapore. I think the Mopar filters, are not relabled Stratapore, but rather a step below the Stratapore. You'll pay a lot more for the Mopar at the dealer. I pay less than $7. 00 for Stratapore's when I buy a case of 12. Fuel filters are also very reasonable when buying a case, and you won't have to go back for a long time.

Yep, buy the filter at Cummins, awhile back the ste**er qouted me $ 51 for the fuel filter, Cummins was $12:eek: And something like $33 vs. $7 for the oil filter!!

I found the SAME overly pricey filters thing at the local dealer. My salesman pleasantly told me to be sure to have the dealer change the oil at regular intervals to make sure there was a record and DC would honor my warranty, in case it was ever contested.

dnitzel, just save reciepts from where you buy your oil and filters and keep track of the mileage when changed if your dealer still insists they must change it make them do it for free!! Would probably fall under the Moss Magnuson Warranty Act guide lines!!
