Wow i feel priveledged,

The first post in this sectionOo.

Seriously though, I would love to have a 1/2 ton diesel as my needs don't require this big 1 ton truck that i have. Don't get me wrong, you couldn't pry this truck from my cold lifeless hands, but it is overkill for the 16 ft ATV trailer that i pull. Id love to average 25 mpg versus the 17. 5 that i average now. It had beter have a suspension system design that lends itself to major modification as i absolutly love my Kore syspension and would not give that up for anything as well.

Lets see what the future brings... .....

I agree that if there was enough of a price advantage, I'd consider a 1/2 ton with a Diesel. There has to be many of us that simply wanted the power but did not really need the capacity.

When I am in the middle east (often), I see so many small toyota pickups and land cruisers etc with diesels. I'd be happy to drive one of those too.

I have always used the argument that a 3/4 ton will last longer. I am not sure this is really true in the case of the Dodge.

For my 3/4 ton 91 suburban (CA350), the gas mileage and lack of power made me park it. The strength and suspension is still strong with no rear end sag like the 1/2 tons have.

For this 99 3/4ton Ram, the rust and replacement of front end parts once too often is going to make me park it. The 3/4 ton frame served me well but that is about it on that suffering rusty but still powerful beast.

Hmm maybe this CTD 5spd drivetrain in the ole 'burb would be a good idea. No significant rust on that chevy despite living in a field (rubber mat under it) for most of the last 8 years...

Yep, I'd consider a new 1/2 ton diesel if one were to show up in good ole USA. It would have to have good fuel mileage and plenty of power potential!!

With the price of diesel going higher and higher and the up charge for the diesel I can't see people buying these types of vehicles?? Maybe it's just me but the diesel thing is just about over for anyone not needing a BIG tow vehicle. I hate driving my truck now with fuel being $3. 60+#@$%!

Let's just hope the fuel prices go into a holding pattern for the next 5 or 6 years.

I went from a V10 Dodge that might have received 10mpg to a Diesel that gets 16+mpg.

It's near the break even point $ wise. There is still room, but it's getting tighter.

We need something aimed more at EFFICIENCY than POWER. I would rather get 30 mpg in a 4x4 5-speed truck than win a quarter mile drag race. Maybe it will have a balance of power and economy like the European diesels.

Maybe there will be power choices. I heard there was going to be a V-6 and a V-8 diesel choice. I have power with what i have. If the V-6 and 5 or 6 speed can get 30+ mpg, I want it!

Where can I get diesel for $3. 60 :-{} $4. 00 here in maine now... .

I would love to have a 4 door dakota size with a 4 cyl diesel around 40 mpg for my wife to drive. may just have to make one this summer. dsl prices are pissingf me off though

Me too.

I have been thinking of getting a 1/2 ton truck with a gas engine as gas is cheaper. I did some math and it doesn't pan out. If I could get an efficient diesel in a 1500 I would do it. Also, I too have no real need for a truck this heavy any longer.

The new body style comes out for 2009 and dodge said that a diesel is coming the next year. I always said that I would drive my 01 for 10 years so a 2011 model with a year to work out some kinks sounds good for me for a 1500 with a diesel. I'm just disappointed that it sounds like it will be a V8 instead of smaller I6 or I4.

I am also one of the people that will buy a fuel efficient truck over one with power for my work truck. Sign me up for a diesel 1/2 ton @ 25+mpg! Fuel prices are seriously taking stuff away from my family.

$4. 25 a GAL. here in PA, its getting real rediculous, beginning to regret buying a new 5th wheel last fall. I filled up begining of FEB and paid 3. 35 a GAL. I still love my truck and the power for pulling.

i dont need a big truck like i have now either. i would love to have a half tone with a I-4 in it!

average of $4. 00 here in phoenix. just went south of the border and its $2. 25:eek: i really really dont understand why it is so much cheaper! i wish i had a bed fuel tank. i took all of the quad 5 gallon taks and filled them up!

long please read:they (being oil companies) dont want all the car companies to build diesel cars and light trucks so they will keep the price d/f there as long as it takes to kill the idea of light cars and trucks running diesels. one idea to combate this is that our govt give tax rebates for amercians to drive a green vehicle such as the new clean diesels. this example will drive home my point " the epa estimated that if 1/3 of americans drove diesel powered cars we could eliminate all of the oil that we import from saudi's" not good for big oil!!!

Jeep ran a diesel in it here in the u s a it would not meet the 07 smoge. thay should be out next year in the jeep and the 1500.
