Tomorrow im looking at an 03 210k 6in lift bilstien shocks, 5ohp injectors, new front and rear oversized drive shafts, rebuilt trans and valve body with a shift kit, new 37s and some other stuff. So my goal was a 03-04 manual shorty, found this one an auto LB. Watched every youtube vid i could, any other pointers?
my check list
check cold start
check coolant color
listen for knocks/rough idle
smell exhaust
look at trans fluid
drive and get to temp
beat it a little/highway speed/check drop down for slip
rev to 2000 and check decel
take off cap and check bounce
pull dipstick and look for smoke
ask what filters have been used(no additional like cat or fass)
ask about fuel additives
walk away when its ****

Thanks cant wait to be here with this one or another if its ****

Check the steering gear box for excessive play...the stock ones don't like oversized tires.

I was getting 14 around town and 17 mpg with 35s and 3.73s 4spd auto.

Inspect the quality and condition of the lift. check wear on tires.

Cheers, Ron

Do these years have heater blend door control issues?

You got the right idea to go over it, always nice to be an informed buyer. If the seller is knowledgeable you can learn some odds and ends of what was not done or other gremlins they ran across or did not get too yet.

From the seller side, dont forget it's a used truck, they could be over this thing, at times not care less what's wrong, sold as is.

I usually have a lot of documents and do a title check for accidents, salvage titles, like a carfax or auto check. Auto check is a few bucks cheaper.

You can also just google the VIN number and see what pops up.

For a good deal fix it all up and make it your own, good luck with the review and possible purchase.

So I saw and drove it yesterday. Knew it had bad rockers, but the box wasnt in the best shape and the tailgate was junk. 3 things popped out at me besides cosmetic. 1. When coasting then applying the skinny pedal there was a clunk, bad trans mount? Transmission was just rebuilt along with the valve body and added a shift kit. Was thinking unjoints but he just put in a 1 piece drive shapt and the joints looked new 2. Oil leaks the gaskets were replaced up top but he thinks it's the pan, could it be the turbo tube. Looks like he didnt clean it after gasket replacement. 3. Coolant was 3 quarts low, I might give him this one he just replaced the water pump 3 weeks ago and hasnt popped the hood since. I think the air worked itself out leaving a void.
But it was dead cold and started up no smoking, little steam from the filler hole and vent after warm, none from the dipstick. In park it rev fine and dropped back to idle smoothly. Shifted fine. Breaks were ok, has 37s. Turned fine. Blend doors worked but were quirky, like a video game code but was fine. Ac has been fixed. Not sure, if I get it or not, on the fence. Thanks for your replies.
