Well spring has finally got to this part of the Rocky Mtns. Went out for the first camping trip of the season over the long weekend with the travel trailer in tow.

With the bombing mods done to my truck (see sig) it is totally awesume when it comes time to climb grades! I've never had a tow vehicle with this much power, used to think my old 454 was stout #ad
A bombed Cummins is truely amazing!!!

To top off the weekend, on the way home I got the opportunity to go blowing by a new Powerjoke while climbing the grade on I-80 eastbound out of Laramie, WY. The Powerjoke was pulling a similar sized trailer, I'd be willing to bet that the speed differential between us was 20+ MPH.

LIFE IS GOOD

R. ebel,
Must be an awesome feeling to run up a hill
with an engine that doesn't want to give up.
Extra bonus winning King of the hill against a Power Stroke(joke).

I used to have ford vans with 460's(7. 5) that pulled good up the small hills around here. But the Cummins straight 6 pulls just as good and uses less fuel.

I think you can safely drop the comparison to the 454's. Unless your being sympathetic and need to mention that you used to have one. My stock 215 truck would blow them away. I had a 454 guy, who I passed with similar trailers, ask me what I had under the hood. He was not happy when I replied a 6 cylinder!

I just put in a #11 plate and I am very happy. Your truck must fly! It must be messing with your friends ego's big time. How are your EGT's and do you notice any turbo lag when your doing a normal launch in traffic?

SMorneau,
I'm at 6000 ft. in elevation and when camping we generally go up around 9000 ft. Egt will overtemp at these altitude if you bury your foot to the firewall, but with big power I'm finding its not necessary to do so. They are manageable by controlling your right foot. When steaming past the Powerjoke I was in 5th gear with the cruise control set at 70 mph and the EGT was at 1050-1100* F. I consider turbo-lag to be a non-issue with a 5 speed.

I'm currently saving my money for one of the modifed HX-35 turbos from PIERS. He told me they machine out the compressor housing yielding a flow rate increase of 60%! Supposed to get 6-8 psi more boost pressure which will lower egt's approximately 200* F. This allows me to retain my PacBrake and is about 1/2 the price of an HX-40.
