Competition First pull, need some help

I was thinking about entering my truck in the local fair truck pull. The way I have my truck setup should I just forget about it or should I give it a shot. I figured I should be able to place better than dead last as long as something doesn't break. How do I take off? Do I put it in drive, two, one? Four high or four low? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

4X4 Low 1st gear, after you take off build some RPM's then bump her into 2nd and hang on. Lock the convertor when you shift to 2nd if you have the capabilities. Have fun as I did my first pull 3 weeks ago and this is the advice I was given by the winner of the evening and guy that pulls several times a week. A real pulling junkie.

i also just pulled sled for my first time this last weekend. it was a pretty soft track, and pulled 212ft. i placed 10th out of 15 trucks in my class. i used 3rd gear low range. sounds like ya got a pretty good setup. go for it, dont break anything, and have fun! after the fair post how many feet ya pulled. good luck!
