GAmes-"You don't say you were using a W/D hitch, so I assume you were not". I was indeed using a WD hitch, in addition to the sway bar. Even with trying to balance the load, the 8K Komfort was nearly 1200# on the ball. May well have been a design issue of the trailer. I pulled a 11K+ 5th wheel about 15K miles with the same truck and was happy with the power and handling, at least before I bought my '06 for the same trailer.

I stand corrected, my apologies. So was the sway a constant battle or just when being passed by trucks & buses or in gusty crosswinds?

Mainly crosswinds and trucks passing. I had towed the trailer with a Ford Bronco before the truck and it was a real "nail biter". The sway bar did help and the '98 Dodge was much better. The fifth wheel made towing a breeze in comparison

A 7000-8000 lbs. RV is not heavy for these Dodge trucks. If there is a sway issue, the hitch is too light or too heavy. Get it right and you won't even know it is there. The longer the trailer the better they tow. If you want to pull a trailer with some hitch action, tow a short dump trailer with a load of gravel that the loader operator wasn't particular where he dumped it. Because of this, I have another gooseneck on order. The bumper pull will be mostly used for light bulky loads and or be hooked to my dually.

That doesn't meet the definition of sway, it does meet the definition of annoying. All flat sided trailers move to the side when a truck or bus passes or there is a gusty crosswind. A 5th wheel isn't as noticeable because there isn't a fulcrum.
