With about 5500 miles on the new truck, I filled up today with over 600 miles on the tank and it took less that 30 gallons to fill. Calculated fuel economy was 20. 6 MPG.

I'm happy. Now, if it will pull the new 5th wheel over the passes, I will be thrilled.

Just got back from Steamboat Springs had a 600 pound yamaha grizzly 600 4x4 in the bed, 19 mpg on that tank. Best ever has been 21 mpg.

MPG

Best I've done with mine is 22 mpg following my father (ssssssssslllllllloooooooowwwwwww driver) but I average around the 17 mark. Can't complain better than most gassers.

:D

Mileage

2001. 5 3500 weight 8350# best empty 19. 2. Went to Alaska with slide in camper. 12,900# for 6800 miles averaged 15. 3. I do my own fill ups and it is within 2" of overflowing. Have not checked the odometer against mileage markers.

My best MPG with our 98.5 is 19.81 MPG

But that is about 1/2 round town and 200 miles of freeway at 65 mph.

The best with my new 2001 3500 HO is 16 MPG with only 2000 miles on it.

mileage

This is my first post . I have haunted this website for about a year and a half. I finally broke down and bought my first Dodge Ram last Dec. Have really enjoyed it too. Its a great truck

The mileage on my truck on the road runs 20. 5 In town driving is now 18. The miles on this truck are now 11k. Prior to that time it was averaging 17-17. 5. Guess it finally got broke in. My neighbor owns a 99 3/4 lwb 2500 and he had let me drive it on several occasions.

Mine is a 2001. 5 SWB ETC QC 2500 Medium bronze with just about everything except leather. That particular color is hard to find and you dont see it everyday like the other colors... meaning white, driftwood and red.

Being that I am an Amateur radio op I ordered the mount Mike Brolin makes once he announced he was going to build a few again.

OLTRAC88,

Welcome to the TDR! Great to hear from you.

I'm getting the mileage you used to get, just over 17mpg. I'm at about 5800 miles and I sure would like to see it over 20.

klenger,

We got our trucks at about the same time, you have about the same miles, YOU RAT :D, what are you doing that I am not? Have you made mods to improve your mpg?

BTW, Congratulations!!

mileage

MWHEATON:

Have'nt done anything special. I work for a local independent school district and some days drive around from school to school quite a bit. Generally under 40 mph with lots of stoplights. The last couple of weekends have had the truck on the highway for about 100 mile round trip all at 70mph and the milege jumps way up. Its on its third oil change and after the last change noticed a big difference (improvement) in the way the truck ran overall. Also I did change out the air filter too. Kind of early for the air filter but what the heck. As for mods. Have not done any yet. However the TC and VB from DTT sound like it might be a good start. My first trip (second really) was down to the Beaumont area of Texas at the end of March is where we got the 20. 5 average. Gearing on this truck is 3. 55

Regards

David

No mods to the truck that should increase milage, except the chrome plated tailpipe extension. I fugure it's good for 2-3 MPG.

Actually, most of my driving is between home and Denver Intl Airport, which is about 20 miles each way, almost all freeway driving. I ordered the travel package with the overhead computer, and monitor it alot to judge fuel comsumption. I have been driving consertivily, trying to maximise the economy, like taking the truck out of gear and coasting at freeway off ramps, etc. It seems to help. I also use fuel additive (Power something from WalMart) and get all of my diesel from Flying J.

mileage

Klenger,

A friend of mine just bought a Ram 2500 4x4 lwb eth and is getting high mileage out of his. Personally I dumped the standards twenty years ago. I certainly would not like driving a std in the traffic I deal with at times. But different strokes for different folks. The only thing I do regret looking at these trucks in NOT driving one with the standard. Most likely it would not have changed my mind but none the less still would like to have driven one.

Interesting. I didn't even drive an automatic. As you can see from the above post, very little of my driving is in traffic, so the 5 sp works fine for me. I especially like the control of the standard when towing in the mountains.

I just filled up my truck yesterday and it calculated out to 21. 2 MPG based on mostly 60 MPH driving. My truck is 01 ETH 4x4 QC SB.

mileage/transmissions

I understand about location. Prior to my previous truck I owned a 4x4 Toyota and I was twenty years younger. While I liked the truck and shifting. BUT then I was not travelling 30 miles in bumper to bumper traffic in Fort Worth. Once I changed jobs and started travelling from one side of town to the other that attitude changed completely... ... always clutching and shifting you could never simply cruise. That would not be any different in any vehicle with a std. This is simply personal preference here nothing else. After buying a Chevy with an auto I will never return to a std. I dont have to pull very much although with this truck that will change. I have two 16 ft tandems and one 12 ft tandem trailers. no fifth wheels or goosenecks.

The thing I remember the most about my Toyota is that it the mileage was only 17-18 mpg and both of my full size trucks since then have beaten it out hands down for comfort, mileage... but not simply because it was an auto but because of the better ride characteristics of the larger vehicles.

I gotta tell you guys, this is very encouraging news! My heart sank a little when I realized klenger and OLTRAC88 are driving ETC engines, but then I note a couple of very good mpg's on two ETH's since my last post. Way to go guys!

I just filled my tank and had a jump from 17. 1 to 18. 4. I think the big difference is that I had a much longer drive this weekend than the usual 1/2 hour commute back and forth on weekdays. My mileage seems to go down during the warm up, which makes sense.

I note that Dhatfield has the DD1's and an EZ box. Did that help your mileage?

And Ken--I'll definitely pick up a chrome tailpipe if it's good for one or two!

MILEAGE

mwheaton,

My mileage back in the late winter and early spring was averaging around 17. 5 around town. The 18. 0 I am getting now has been since shortly before the last oil change a couple of weeks ago. Again since that time have noticed a big change in engine smoothness. I just returned from my Dad's and the round trip is about 114 miles. My trip computer IS accurate and before I left was reading 18. 2. When I got back to town it read 19. 3

All of this driving is at 70mph. The return trip I pushed it up to 80 on a couple of stretches... . apparently it did not affect the mileage too much either. The friend of mine that owns an ETH says he is getting 20mph in traffic. All of his driving is freeway. Dont know how many miles are on his truck.

I just got back from the GLTDR event in Muncie and I opted to fill up in Terre Haute so I would not have to fill in Illinois. I had travelled just 232. 5 miles before I filled back up and the tank only held 10. 502 gallons. Most of the driving on that tank was at 71 mph with about 1/4 of the mileage running between the park where the event was held and Muncie and then the drag strip on Sunday. This was the first time I broke the 22mpg barrier. The mileage is steadily going up. The truck had just turned 7000 miles at the time I refuelled. The DDII's and PS boost module has not seemed to hurt my mileage at all If a don't drive like a mad man and just cruise. In town with all the stop lights it drops to around 16. 5mpg. If the trend continues I would like to gain another 2mpg by the time I hit 20,000 miles. The truck is a two wheel drive so does weigh a little less than most of you.

Hey guys,

I feel alittle bad. I have an 01 2500 ETC and my best milege so far has been 17. 8. I must say that none of the milege on that tank was strickly highway. It was a combination local and highway. My trtuck has 6,000 miles on it now. I mostly use it to haul a Coachman slidein and get about 11. 8 mpg.

MOPARS1

Your truck probably weighs a good bit less. I see you have a standard cab in addition to the 4x2. That cab makes a diff also.

I'm happy for you for your milege tho. Keep on going.

dynamic mpg

I figure I have a gal. in error when I fillup, and the individual tank calculations is starting to show that with a mere 8100 miles on the rig. Thus for my own satisfaction I have been calculating mpg on a rolling 3 fillup average. So the best we have is 19. 8 and the worst is 14. 8. The best was achieved going east on I-80(tailwind;) And the 14. 8 was alot of town driving with a lead foot. :D As an afterthought when I was going west on I-80 mpg was 18. 6, which includes some town driving in Park City. The overall trend is up over the 8100 miles:D Now to see what it does hauling the 5er on I-80:)
