FIRST thing do to my NEW truck

I can hardly wait till I pick it up and drive the 270 miles home. Got a few trips planned if fuel prices don't go much higher.

First things I'd do is intake, exhaust and gages!

The very first thing you'll want to do is put running boards, or at least mud flaps to protect the paint. Otherwise, you'll be amazed how quickly you collect chips in the paint.

I just ordered a Volant Cool Air Intake for my 2004 Cummings 3500, and I think the muffler removal leaving a straight pipe is the way I will go, first. I can't locate a good discussion on doing this, so I am hoping someone views this message and sends along a link to the best alternative. Something that would compliment the Volant. If there was a comprehensive document for new mods, that would be a time-saver and a help to those of us who just came on board.



I did speak with a gentleman who drove a 3500 like mine, but his with dual wheels. He had cut large holes in his stock air box to let in more air, and had added an electronic device that gave his truck additional power. With a straight pipe, his truck had that more power and got better MPG, even with a heavy load.



My triuck has just under 4000 miles, and I'm driving it every day about 80 miles, building miles. However, the MPG has onlyy climbed to 17. 5 (about 65 mph steady speed), which might be great mileage for such a large truck. I need to locate a heavy load to pull around for a while, just to help seat the rings better. A major problem is to drive it at highway speeds without a load to help do that, which I suspect will require more miles to break in this great truck.



Where is the best place to obtain a servce manual (plan to do my own work). ?



Another problem I have is not having enough time to read all the stuff on this forum, something a person has to do in order to benefit from folk who contribute. I'm not lazy, just swamped for time. A link, limiting research time needed, would be very helpful to me.

It all depends on how much you really want to keep your warrenty! There have been lots of threads lately regarding loss of warrenty due to modifications (intake, engine, exhaust). I'd also be concerned about removing your exhaust because it seems like lots of states are going to or already have smog checks. It's beginning to get less fun to BOMB :{ Enjoy your new truck!

Definitely change the oil & filter when you get it home. I would also (and did) change the fuel filter as well. Mud flaps will help protect your paint. It all depends on what you want to do with it. If you are going to leave it stock for a while, then just follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual or your personal preference. The most important thing though is to enjoy it.

I don't entend to Bomb my truck, I just want to do all I can to keep running great AND not void my warranty. I think gauges are good so I can monitor running conditions.



Changing the oil at only 200 plus miles. I question as isn't the original oil a breaking oil meant to stay in engine till first oil change? I hope I get feed back on this.



What brand filters should I use to replace and where should I buy them?

Geno's Garage is a good place to get filters. Most like the Fleet Gaurds. I think I've heard that Fleetgaurd what the Mopars are. Geno's will sell you a kit with fuel, air, and oil filters to last a certain length of time (enough of each for a specific mileage). I found this convenient. Geno's also has gauges if that's what you want to do. They are a sponsor of TDR. You can find the link through this website. I'm not affiliated with Geno's. Prices and service seem OK to me.

The first thing to do is stay away from performance forums. They cause excessive debt levels that are damaging to you and your vehicle. You get way to much information and choices from these addicting forums. This can cause many sleepless nights trying to decide on what to do next. If you are not going to add additional engine mods, I would not do anything but drive it. But as you can see in my signature I only have 20/20 hindsight.

1) DD southbend clutch

2) TST (with twins program) (w/ gauges)

3) EZ to stack

4) B1/B2 twin turbo setup

5) DPP FASS system

6) DON M's Flux (EDM) injectors



Yep, that oughta do it for the "First things"... .



You can wait on the Kore suspension, and the 35's, and weld wheels :-laf
