cummins in a chevy

V10 To Cummins

I'm going to attempt to put a Cummins in a motorhome built on a Ford E-350 chassis. Anyone have any tips/advice/help they can provide? Wiring diagrams etc??? TIA

there is a place up north that specializes in Cummins into Ford conversions, don't know if they can help you on a "E" series conversion though.

TryTHESE GUYS

I live just over the hill from you and am considering a 12 valve swap into an 86F250 I recently purchased for next to nothing.

big jake, the FORD guy!

Well Mark, I'm kinda doing the same thing. Only my Motorhome is a class "A" coach. I pulled a 460 EFI & C-6 transmission outta mine. I believe Larry Buck has the Cummins Wiring Diagram on his web site. I'll look for it later. On mine, about all of my engine bay wiring harness I saved was the lights and turn signals stuff. All the ECUand EFI stuff is on the shop floor. ( not really, it's in a cardboard box, but it was on the floor). I am using an Allison transmission. An older non computer one. For simplicity sake. My 5. 9 is a 98. 5 12 valve.

Are you going to have a hood to work under? Would be easier than working in a dog house. It's like building a ship in a bottle.

I'm no diesel expert, but I can French engineer with the best of them! Not to mention the guys here have really given me an education.

If I can help! Be glad to. I'll shoot you a day # you can reach me if you want. At least I can point you to the guys who know.

Thanks Jake. I grew up there and still hang out there. They might be able to help me since I would like to keep the stock transmission to keep costs down as much as possible.

Curtis,

Yes the 460 is singing it's death song too, but it might find it's way into a 1969 F-350 farm truck since it has less than 60K on the motor. I wish I could find a good 12 valve that's in the 96-98 year range that I could afford. I have found a place that sells new drop ins for $6K.

The only problem right now is getting enough information to make an informed decision on what to use. The motorhome has been well taken care of since we have had it, but it has seen better days. This is not going to be just an engine swap though. I'm going to try to modernize it inside and out as much as I can without destroying a fairly good floorplan.

The work will be done in my Dads 30'x60' shop at the ranch. That will make it nice since he has accumulated all the tools I should need for this project. Thanks for the offer of help. I'll take you up on that!

Have a great day and thank you again for the help!
