Just got back from the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Southern Kentucky, it was our first tow with the 06 3500 SRW Megacab 48R. I was impressed, we have a Damon fifth wheel, weighing 12100 dry, that the truck definitely knew was there, but handled it very well.

The trip gave it a good all around test with, city streets, expressway, Kentucky country roads and some good old Cumberland Plateau climbs and descents. I used the Tow/Haul mode and was pleased with the shifting, in the mountains I left it in 2nd for the most part.

This is our third CTD, the second automatic and after this trip I don't miss the 6 speed manual.

Congrats on your Megacab. I've never owned an auto CTD. My 06' Megacab is very easy to tow with when compared to my 96'.

Patriot Blue Megacab,

I've seen a few of your post, where are you from in KY, I am retired Navy living in Northern KY, Cold Spring to be exact. I spend alot of time down on Rock Creek. My wife and I have packed all through the Big South Fork, and Daniel Boone, stay safe, we may see you down there later this year.

I was really happy with my quad cab untill I put the child seat in it for the first time. I'll have to move the passanger seat way up.

Megacab would deff be nice with the child seat!

Don, what PSI do you run in your rear tires with that rig. Mine titanium is around 10500 loaded, I think it adds around 2K toung weight to the truck.

I really don't think I need to run 80psi in the rear of the truck, but not sure what to run yet. I leave tomorrow before dawn for the outerbanks of NC!

The last one (dually) I just ran 50psi towing or empty in the rear.

WEll I just towed 450 miles at 65mph. Compared to the 2002 Dually CTD the 06 has much more power.

I am towing a 31' pin to bumper (36' overall) Titanium that was running around 10. 5K.

I do feel a little "push" on the SRW 3500 when a semi passes me that I would not feel in the 02 Dually, but nothing bad. The power difference between the 02 and 06 makes towing that much more fun. the G56 with 3:73's is perfect for towing, I don't see any need for any gears that lower the RPM, I mean its perfect!

the truck seems to want to wander, where you have to keep steering it to make it go straight. It did this empty but seems worse once the back squats down with the weight of the 5er. If I recall, toe out could cause this. Guess I got to run by the shop that does all my alignments. Sure the dealer will look at it under warrantee, but they will say "its within specs" where George will set it "dead on specs" for around $50. 00. Money well spend in my book.

Also thinking about getting those rubber spacers you install on the spring perches. My Titanium does drop it down onto the helper springs, if it sat an inch or 2 higher on the helper springs the trailer would be level.

65mph, mostly level, 12. 375 pen and paper!!! And its only got 2000 miles on it so far.

I did notice a little more gear noise coming out of the trans in 2nd after I unloaded, guess its breaking in, (or breaking up :( )

TowPro,

Let me know what you come up with in spacers, I would be interested to see if they help, my 5er put the bed down also. I had the Dunlap air bags on my 2500, but would rather not have to do this to the 3500. My 03 3500 DRW set quite a bit higher than the 06 Mega. Did you notice any bounce while towing?

Don

the information is on this site somewhere, I just got to search for it. there is a company that makes replacment poly bumpers that replace the stock parts on the helper spring bumpers that are on the frame, but they are around 1 or 2" thicker. I know there are a couple guys here that have them.
