I am going to be putting Amsoil synthetics in both my transfer case and transmission for the first time and I have a few questions:

1) In the service manual, it says that when you drain the transmission fluid through the PTO cover bottom bolt hole, you are supposed to apply sealer to the bolt threads before installation. What type of sealer should I use? It does not specify.

2) What type of tool do I use to remove the drain & fill plugs on the transfer case? The plugs sit flush with the transfer case just like the stock engine oil drain plug but they are definitely not 3/8" or 1/2". It looks like they would take a HUGE allen wrench as they are hexagonal in shape. I would like something that would fit on the end of my torque wrench if possible. Local auto parts store????

3) I plan on using Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 in the transmission and the Amsoil ATF in the transfer case. Is this ok?

Sorry for the long post! (My desire to learn about my truck is never-ending!)

I've wondered about putting Amsoil in the gear boxes, but none of the Amsoil products do not meet the specifications called out by Dodge. I am especially concerned about the 5 speed. Has Amsoil ever put their position on this in writing?

I used a 10mm allen wrench for the transfer case. 17mm allen wrench for the nv5600 (6 speed) on my truck.

You use ATF (dexron) for the transfer case.

The 6 speed calls for Texaco MTX 1874 fluid.

Hope this helps... .
