First trip to the dealer comming up EDIT: New VP-44 being installed.....

Just got back from about a 2000 mile trip. Had a few problems on the way, nothing left me stranded, but worries me... . So I'm hoping all with be covered under 100,000mi engine warranty, we will see.

1st was a loss of power, cruising along at about 70 or so, with cruise set the truck started to slow down. Pedal was too the floor. Tapped the brake to shut the cruise off, hit the pedal manually and all was fine. Did this about 3 times or so on cruise then to me a couple times without the cruise on.

2nd shortly after the 1st thing happend, I had a VERY low fuel pressure situation. After fueling up I couldn't get above 3psi. WOT was 0. After about 5 minutes all returned to normal, which for me has been about 10psi, 8 or so psi cruise.

3rd checked codes on the dash today and had a p1693 show up. From what I gather this is a companion code that means something else is wrong. No SES light as of yet.

I read up on this and some of the other stuff on here, and the general theme I see is 1. APPS or VP44 2. Lift Pump and 3. Could be possibly VP44, not really sure on this without the other codes I guess.

What else could the 1693 mean?

I think everyone gets the 1693 code every so often. I've had it a couple of times myself. I don't think it really means anything.

What were your pressures when the truck was sagging while on cruise? To me it sounds like a fuel delivery problem; either a plugged fuel filter, failing lift pump (your "normal" numbers even seem a bit low), or trouble somewhere else back toward the tank.

I'm changing the filter tonight. But I don't think that's it. When the power problem occured, I'd move the pedal back, and forth, and nothing, let completely off or keep working it back and forth then bang it came back to life.

your [very poor 44] is going into limp and will get worse with more miles and will happen more and more. time for a new pump. maybe both of them.

my 0. 2

Well truck is going in on monday, to see if I can get it covered under warranty or not. Changed the fuel filter today, just to be sure that wasn't the problem, it wasn't. Last time I changed the filter, a few months ago, I bumped the starter 3 times, and it fired right up. THIS time, it didn't want to fire. Took me a good 1/2 hour 45 minutes to get it to fire. Bleeding fuel lines, bumping the starter, etc... The lift pump is sounding REAL sick. It finally popped, and almost died. I hit the pedal and kept it going. It ran a lil rough but then smoothed out.

Just got a call from the dealer, new vp-44 is going to be installed. Plus they tried to get my to pay for a bunch of other crap..... The quote he first gave me was for around $900, valve adjustment, coolant flush, clean radiator (external), some sort of injector cleaning, serpantine belt, and new fuel filter (kinda funny since I just replaced that the day before taking it in... . )

I rejected everything but the valve adjust. So my total is going to be $180. I can do everything else myself. Could do the valve adjust too, but I'll let them do it while they are in there... .

Oh yeah the APPS is going to be replaced too. Funny thing is, he said the lift pump is fine... . I'm a bit confused on that, but if they put a new injector pump on it, I guess I'll just do a new lift pump and maybe a pusher.....
