I am working on installing gauges in my 01' ETH . I have the boost and pyrometer install down because I've done a couple in the past. But the Fuel pressure gauge is going to be a little more involved. I am wanting to use the schraeder valve after the filter and I have ordered the 0-15 Autometer Mech. gauge. What is the best line to hook it up to the schraeder valve with and do I have to use stainless braided instead of the suppplied plastic tubing. I understand it is a safety issue and if the plastic line is not good enough I will use whatever yall recommend. I will be putting the gauge in the top hole of the a pillar mount. Could yall please help I am tired of searching through pages of old posts trying to decipher which way is best as well as what hose / fittings to use. TIA Jeremy.

Thanks for the responces so far, I agree that the steel braid is better but where do you get it reasonable and what fittings do I need? Thanks!

I got my Braided line setup from Andy at www.smokindiesel.com

I mounted my fuel pressure gauge under the dash by the transfer case lever simple because you dont need to see it all the time like you do Boost and EGT. It was also alot easier to plumb to that location with the braided steel line since the thickness of the line can be a pain when running it up the A Pillar.

Over five years using just nylon oil pressure type tubing with no problems. I do pass it though 1/4" vinyl tubing to protect from kinks and sharp edges, but do that with a boost gauge line also. It's not always necessary (highly recommended though) to use a snubber or needle valve to eliminate gauge pulsation or buzz on a 24 valve but if you do have a leak it will only amount to a few drips before your gauge hits zero. If you use a $5 needle valve for your snubber it can be turned off in the advent of a leak. SS hose can be much more difficult to route, is very much more expendsive and in my opinion an overkill.

I used the stainless....

But I have to agree with Illflem, it is over kill. I wanted it for the ease of just hooking up to the schroeder and then just put an adapter on the back of the gauge. I had mine under the dash so routing wasn't nearly as bad as trying to get to the pillar.

A word of warning though. I had mine hooked into the prefilter port and the hammering from them VP could be heard clearly in the cab. This could only be worse in the forward location. A snubber would probably help. I have since gone to electrical gauge and senders. And yes I used stainless lines for that too. Looks way better.

Thanks!

Thanks for yalls input. I am going to drill and tap my banjo bolt and mount the guage down low under the dash. I appreciate it!

IF YOU DON'T MIND PUTTING THE HOSE TOGETHER WITH SS BRAID YOURSELF YOU CAN BUY ALL THE FITTINGS AND HOSE FROM SUMMIT RACING OR JEGS AT A REASONABLE PRICE. YOU CAN USE THE AUTOFIT LINE FROM EARL'S FOR SUCH A LOW PRESSURE APPLICATION AND THEY EVEN HAVE SOME REINFRORCED RUBBER HOSE THAT USES "AN" FITTINGS THAT WOULD WORK WELL. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO ASSEMBLE THE HOSES YOURSELF YOU CAN GO TO ANY HYDRAULIC INDUSTRIAL HOSE STORE AND GET JIC FITTINGS ON SS HOSE BUILT ON THE SPOT. JIC USES THE SAME 37 DEGREE FLARE AS AN (SO YOU CAN BUY YOUR ADAPTERS) BUT ONLY COMES IN STEEL FITTINGS. IF YOU OPT FOR MAKING YOUR OWN HOSES YOU WILL NEED AN ABRASIVE OR CHOPSAW TO CUT THE HOSE. DON'T BE AFRAID TO DO THIS AS EVERY RACER IN AMERICA IS MAKING THEIR OWN HOSES FOR SATURDAY NIGHT AS WE SPEAK... LOL:)

Finally!

Thanks, I have been waiting to get back to my part time job at Napa Wed to try and see if our JIC fittings would work! You see we carry a full weatherhead fittings and hoses line and we make hydraulic hoses all the time. If we have a small enough hose I may just make my own! Thanks!
