Hi Folks. There were a couple of posts on problems with idle speed variation and engines quitting not too far back. A friend of mine with an 03 CTD. with 48re just had his fixed and it seems ok for now. The culprit was the lift pump!! I'll watch to see if it stays fixed. He's got around 30,000 kms on his truck. :) ;)

I've got 26k on my 03 now, I was thinking when lift pumps starts it's death roll I will go with the fass system. That looks like a quality system, a bit spendy though!

i wonder if my lift pump is headed south. it has never stalled but when cold i have an idle variation. it pulsates like on injector is firing more fuel than the others. might be the lift pump. if that is the case than these trucks have gone backwards almost everything on my truck has an issue.

:) The idle was moving up and down just so you could hear it even when warm. It would also act up sometimes and surge by at least 4 or 5 hundred rpm. We figured it was air in the fuel to the injector pump. Dealer swapped the lift pump and its still running OK. By the way. Idle variation is normal as the heaters cycle on and off when cold. MY 04 does till warmed up but I'm no mechanic . ;)
