I replace the timing cover on my truck today and it was a lot of work. I have parts engine out of a 97 that a customer of mine installed a meth kit against my advice and the pistons are much smaller now. I remove the timing cover of that engine a installed it onto mine. The pin was in the front of the oil pan with very little damage to it no damage to any of the gears in housing. The bad thing is all 4 bolts inside the gear housing were so loose that if the pin did not fall out and do this damage the bolts would have soon. Now I am not sure how the jig fix is done but if the cover in not removed and the gear housing inner bolts are not cleaned a lock tightened some one could end up with more damage than the dowel pin those bolts are a lot harder and may cause gear damage. The kit that came from tst worked real nice came with the lock tight and a new front crank seal. It is nice to drive the truck again with out leaving a quart of oil at every stop.
