I’ve been having problems lately with my headlights flickering. Seemed to happen mainly when I touched the knob to turn them on or off. Hmmmmm…. methinks; “Looks like the switch is flaky. ” Just before I went to go order one, I thought to myself; “Self, I wonder if that switch can be taken apart and cleaned or something?” Turns out it can! It did not occur to me to take pictures until I was done, but this is an easy one. I’d say 1 beer on a 6 beer scale.

Here’s how I did it:

1- Remove the plastic panel below the steering column – 2 Phillips screws.

2- Pop of the plastic bezel that the headlight switch is mounted in. It pulls straight off with no tools.

3- Unplug the switch and drag the assembly over to bench where you have that beer waiting. Take a swig.

4- On the back of the assembly are 4 Phillips screws that hold the back cover to the switch on. Remove them and slip off the cover.

5- I then inspected everything and all looked good so I then GENTLY bent the copper contacts on the back of the knob slightly up so they would make better contact with the slip rings on the circuit board. Another swig.

6- Reassemble the whole thing and try it out.

The whole job took about 10 minutes, including finishing that Alaskan Amber Ale. So far it seems to have solved my problem. If you have headlights acting up, try this before spending any cash. If it fixes your problem, you can buy me brew next time you see me! :-laf
