Flash for Fan Operation???

I've been having fan problems with my 2004 5. 9L Dodge 2500 (110K miles) annually. The Dodge dealer mechanics, a great auto electric shop, and an independent mechanic have all struggled with this. Everything is working perfectly now after the independent mechanic fooled around with the signal from the ECM to the fan and got it to engage. He's thinking a flash is needed. Based on other posts, it seems like there may be a flash available that addresses this. Does anyone out there now if this is true and what the flash number is so I have something to go on when working with the Dodge dealer mechanics (trying a different dealer this time)? The problem arises when the fan doesn't operate, the A/C is turned on, the compressor temperature and pressure skyrockets, the coolant is released, leaving the truck and everyone in it hot. The first Dodge mechanic has replaced the viscous fan clutch twice and doesn't seem interested in recognizing that there is something else wrong (as evidenced by the independent mechanic altering the signal and getting it to work fine). Ideas?

TSB# 18-022-07 for 03-05 trucks dated 03/14/07 & titled "Flash 5. 9L Turbo-Diesel engine system enhancements" may be what you are looking for. Its coverage includes "improved engine cooling (radiator fan activation) and prevention of possible engine overheat". See TDR Issue 62 page 63 for more info.

Thanks to Janet701's info, dealer performed flash "AJ" on Thursday. Tech explained that the control module was programmed from the factory to delay engaging the cooling fan to allow the engine to warm up ASAP to get the most complete combustion and reduced emissions. The problem was that the factory setting was allowing it to get too hot, causing the A/C compressor to build too much temp/pressure and blow out the coolant. The flash is supposed to allow the fan to engage at a lower temp. Since the truck hasn't been flashed since January '04, I'm curious to see what other changes I might see.

Does anybody know if they are still doing this flash TSB# 18-022-07? I have a co-worker with an 2005 3500 and would like to have this flash done. He stopped at some dealer around San Antonio and they did not know anything about the flash... I told him to find another dealer and he may go up to Kerrville and see what they say.

Is there a TSB or flash for '07, 5. 9 cooling fan operation that cuts in sooner when the ENGINE is above 215 degrees?
Mine seems to cut in okay for the A/C.

He said he went to another dealer and they said the reflash would cost $95. He has the Edge Juice on this 2005 and thinks it may need to be disconnected before the flash. The older EDGE is hardwired as a permanent mounted fixture and I am thinking it needs to be in the stock formation before flash any ideas on that???
