Hi all,

Installed an external CD changer today and took the radio out. Needed +12V, ground and power on 12V. Connected this via inline clips from the radio harness. All works as expected. When I later went back to the truck, the remote door lock would not unlock. The interior light does not come on just the security light is blinking and there is a synchron click soud. The truck starts and drives with the headlights on. No light at the instruments and the light switch is without funktion.

Any idea what happened and how to disable the theft alarm? This truck has no sentry key and I do not know about any theft alarm build in.

I just got the truck one week and already it is playing with me...

thanks

My suspicion is that you are overdriving the accessories controller located under the fuse box by using a low current 12V control lead as a power supply for a device, and overdriving it in the process.

Many of the interior accessories are controlled devices, i. e. the radio is controlled for integrated cell phones (turn off the volume when a call is answered), interior lights are dimmed, auto door locks at 5mph and remote keyless entry, etc.

My daughter has a Dodge Stratus and smoked her interior lights and keyless entry putting in a head unit. My son has a CTD Ram and did the same putting in an audio power amp and inadvertently shorting the switched 12V from the controller to the radio. However, in the case of the Ram, we were able to make everything functional by feeding a good 12V switched source back into what was supposed to be an output that my son tapped for the amp.

Try unhooking the changer and see if everything works as normal. If so, then find good power sources directly at the fuse box and avoid the leads behind the dash.

If things still don't work after unhooking the leads, you might want to try hooking a good switched 12V source to the point where you tapped and see if feeding back power helps.

Thanks 4 the fast answer. When I went back to the truck this mornig, armed with a screwdriver and a voltmeter, the remote entry worked again and everything is back to normal. ???

So this left me wondering if the computer has it's own life and if there is a way to reset the blinking security light. The manual just mentioned how often it can blink without telling how do reset it. Anyone got an idea?

Well, this evening I went to the supermarket, unlocked the doors with the remote but it took 10 min before I got into the truck to drive home. My security alarm was blinking again, The indoor light were not working. The truck would start so I could drive home. The driving lights came on automatically, but the instrument cluster stayed dark and the instruments were not working. After 10 minutes driving the instrument lights came on and the instruments were working again. Anybody had this crazy behaviour of his truck?
