I need a 5th wheel hitch

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Im mounting a used J I steel flat bed on my 95 dodge and was just wondering what everybodies thoughts were on the best way to mount it. Its got a goose neck ball in it and will be used so id like it to be mounted very solid.

I would think you'd want to position the flatbed over the truck frame properly aligned from front to rear and side to side then figure out how to build mounting brackets.

The truck frame rails may not line up with the bed frame rails but if they do, four simple 1/4" steel straps welded to the outside edge of truck and bed frames on each side could hold it in place but you'll probably have to build small steel supports to fit under the truck bed rails to properly hold the weight it will carry.

1/4" straps won't be enough if you are going to use the gooseneck hitch - too much lateral stress. I've used 3" x 1/4" channel with good results on beds used in the oil patch. Weld to the rail on the bed and use two bolts going into the pickup frame on each channel.
