I ain't Powerwagon, but I like the national sales tax better  . Flat Tax still misses those who work for cash or get their money unethically (sp).

Honestly, either would be preferred over what we have now. I do believe whatever the alternative, it would have to be phased in over say 5 years.

I wouldn't mind seeing a combination of the two. Have a flat income tax set at something like 10-12% and a flat national sales tax set somewhere around 5%.

The way I see it, a sales tax will kill buying, which in turn, fuels the economy.

Living in a state that has a 6% tax(more is coming) we think about it when we buy something big.

Actually, all the states around us have a higher sales tax. Smartest thing we could do would be abolish it, think of the border traffic sales!!!

No matter what you do, there will be people who get around it.

I bet you will never see a flat tax. The uses of the tax structure as it is now to shape and bend our country to the whims of the Government is too powerful of a tool for them to ever give it up.

Yeah, and I wouldn't be able to write off my annual business meeting which Im holding in Cozumel this year. :D I also wouldn't be able to write off my insurance premiums or my other expences for that matter. Don't get me wrong, I think it's worth looking more into, but the way I see it, the tax would be higher than it is now for mid-lower income people and lower for mid-high income people if it were the same for everyone.

Congress will never give up the racket they're running. They will never give up the millions in "protection" they are paid annually (ahem... "campaing contributions") by business seeking relief from stifling Federal taxes and regulations. It would put them out of business! :)

Tax lawyers, CPA's, accountants, bookkeepers, etc. will never let our current tax system change very much. They would lose too much. It would be nice, however, to try something very different than what we have now. I think a NATIONAL (sales) tax , on the point of sales, would be the right way to go ONLY if they would do away completly with the graduated income tax we have in place now.
