I have a 90 CTD 4x4 with 4:10 gears limited slip in the rear. I have heard that you can not flat tow with the transfer case in the neutral position and the transmission shifter in the neutral position, can somebody please verify wether I will smoke anything in my drive train if I attempt to flat tow my rig behind my motor home. I do not want to find out the hard way and have heard too many conflicting stories, any assistance would be greatly apprecciated. JHerman

don't do it without undoing drive shaft. There's a posting somewhere that a bearing in the trans (manual) is lubed by the engine turning a shaft someway. Some have even caught fire. Do a search first. I wondered this same thing. Some guy I know put hubs on the REAR of his jeep so he could flat tow without undoing driveshaft. Good luck.
