Yesterday I needed to top off the DEF tank and like always stopped at Quik Trip where it's $2.69/ gallon at the pump. This is my third time to buy DEF there. On the way home last night I get the message " incorrect DEF fluid see dealer ". Today, thinking I got a bad batch of fluid I drained the tank as far down as I could and topped it off with two gallons I bought at O Reillys. On the way home I got the message " engine will not restart in 200 miles service DEF see dealer " no code or check engine light at all. Only under 33k miles and it's time to go in right before the holiday, good bye truck for a while.

According to the dealer my ECM was not up to date so they flashed it and said it's good to go. Funny thing is I never received any notification from Ram that the truck needed this done. Guess they wait until you get that message in the EVIC and bring it in.

You received the message now because it does not run the DEF monitor until it sees the tank level increase. Hopefully the flash will take care of it, but most of the time the monitor has to be forced to run by a very involved procedure that needs to be followed exactly or it has to be done over again from the beginning. It looks like you drive it quite a few miles, so you should know rather quick if the DEF monitor has run. If it hasn't you will get the miles to no start countdown again.

sag2,

I hope this cures it, scared me to death to see that message it's something you just don't want to see. I have noticed since the flash that the oil pressure reads a little higher and the Insight no longer shows the distance since last regeneration. The truck hit 66% tonight, did a regen and my Insight has nothing on the regen distance.
