Fleetgard vrs Mopar

Which is the better fuel filter, Geno's sells both, but the fleetgard is almost $20.00 less? I'm all for saving money, if it's a rebranding thing, but I'm also an OEM believer, when $20.00 dollars more for a OEM fuel filter is cheaper than replacing a $15K CTD. What are the opinions on both, and if asking this starts a thread war, so be it?

This will be the first time I change my own fuel filter on my 07 6.7 C&C CTD. It's only been changed by a dealer, so I'll assume they used Mopar filters.

Much more importantly, Fleetguard is in fact a Cummins subsidiary making high quality filtration products for Cummins.

Yes they do. And Fleetgard is a subsidiary of Cummins and so this is why we use Fleetgard, and or Mopar, they are superior filters and designed for use with there engine. There are a few other filter manufactures that make a quality product. You can't go wrong with these two filter names in use with our trucks.

As previously stated, Cummins Filtration makes Fleetguard filters and Mopar filters. Both brands have the same engraving on the top plastic part of the filter. I purchase which ever filter is the cheapest at the time since they are the same exact filter. The MO-291 is the FS53000 in a different box. Amazon currently has the MO-291 for $8 more than the FS53000.

No joke, I wouldn't have asked if I didn't know. So is the sarcasm for or against seafoam. The reason I ask, is my 04.5 had a treatment performed during fuel filter changes, from the dealer for an extra cost of coarse. I was never asked that from another dealer, that my 07 had fuel filter changes performed at.

SeaFoam is a good product, but pouring it directly into the filter housing is never a good idea. It can stir up any small debris that is in the housing and put it on the clean side of the fuel system. Put it in the tank and let it go THROUGH the filter if you want to use it.

For the least expensive Fleetguard filters etc. go to your local Case Tractor/Industrial equipment dealer, remember these CTDs have been used in thousands of tractors etc.

Fleetguard in my Cummins' since 1997 when I started doing this.
IIRC there was a fuel additive study around here recently, and Seafoam wasn't too good in the lubricity department- to the point that I stopped using it.
I am a big believer in just watching where you buy fuel to begin with and to do things like not take fuel when a delivery is happening at the same time, and keeping receipts. Occasionally I do use an additive, and it's usually Stanadyne.

I only buy quality fuel, and keep all receipts. I'm only doing it myself, after the dealer I would normally go to screwed up my 2014 CTD work truck so bad, it's still not fixed and is under litigation. And they only did a oil change. So I'm getting ready to service diffs, trans, transfer case, oil change and as mentioned fuel filter on my 07 C&C.

Sag2, I understand the early 6.7 has a canister that you remove unlike the later models. So if I can remove the canister and clean it, it won't hurt it as you described, unless the seafoam can hurt the DPF or injectors in the concentrated form?

All I know is that Cummins doesn't recommend fuel additives. That is good enough for me. If you happen to live in an area with poor fuel quality and cleaner/lubricant is necessary, do what you must.
