I just picked up a replacement Fleetguard Air Filter for the stock air box. I was surprised to see that the filters that i bought di not have the foam prefilter on the bottom. Has Fleetguard changed these filters? Is there any problem running the filter without the prefilter?

I did some searching and found thatthe foam was there just for limiting turbo noise. Is that all it was there for?

I think:confused: I read somewhere on here that they stopped putting the foam on the air filters. Why? I guess you would have to ask out great DC engineers:eek: Probably another cost cutting attempt. :{But they still are putting the silencer ring in the turbo.

The last air filter I bought before I switched to K&N was from NAPA and it still had the foam on it. Worked fine but expensive (about $24).

the fram airfilter

The fram airfilter has never had the foam on it either, but the last fleetguard one I bought from Deno's a couple months ago had the foam on it.
