the Fleetguard website lists about 20 different types of coolant--which is right for my stock '01 TD? I'm hoping to find the proper stuff in a "pre-mix" version so I dont have to worry about tap water quality. . thanks

I buy the Cat ELC (extended life coolant). for about 6-7 bucks a gallon. Has all the same qualities as mentioned in the link above. You can get it at the Caterpillar dealer.

I use the concentrate & mix it with distilled water.

Some of you a talking about a different coolant, the ESXtreme is rated for 600k between changes. Parts guy at Cummins NW told me that since it was introduced about six months ago they sell very little of any other type.

Same for me, but I get it at Cummins West in Sacramento, about $7 / gallon last summer when I bought it.

600K miles... well, I'm just waaaaay too paranoid to go that long. After I lost head gaskets twice and the engine block itself once on my old Ford 6. 9 diesel from cavitation, I will never go longer than ~50K miles without changing coolant in any diesel. Now before anybody starts :-{} me about the sleeveless design of the Cummins rendering it immune from cavitation..... I've heard it all, and it just makes me sleep better at night by spending a few $ to change my coolant every year or two :D

My $. 02.
