Ive been trying to figure out where I can buy Fleetguard filters (oil, air, fuel) locally. I really dont like to buy anything on the internet. I think Ive seen some web sites that imply that the filters you get at the dodge dealer are actually Fleetguards. Anyone know anything about that ?

Thanks,

Buy them directly from Cummins NW. If you can talk to the parts manager and ask for a case price and they can order as a regular replenishment and save on the shipping. If you special order you will pay full shipping. I have done this out here in Tennessee. It's worth a try and it will save you a couple dollars per filter.

Just about any OEM truck dealer can do it as well.

If you have any close by check them out. The trick is as mentioned above, buy in case lots.

Mike. :)

You can also pick up a parts book specific to your year model from Cummins. It shows a breakdown of many components for the engine as well as part numbers, only about thirty bucks if I remember correctly. It's the same book they refer to if they need a part number

I buy mine from Fleetpride in Kirkland. They are the cheapest locally I have found and can get Fleetguard and Baldwin filters really quick if they aren't in stock.

twheat,

I took your advice and stopped by the Fleetpride in Kirkland this morning. They dont have the Fleetguard in stock, but can get them in a day. They seem to mostly stock the Baldwin filters. Im not familiar with them. How to they stack up to Fleetguard ?

From what I've read they are great filters. Alot of guys say they are just as good as Fleetguard. I have no experience with them in my personal vehicle but I do use them at work on Cummins powered generators and forklifts. I just wait the day it takes to get the oil filters so no big deal here. I usually order like 6 of them at a time and I noticed the prices are just as good as the web. Good Luck!

I also believe there was an oil filter comparison in he TDR magazine a few issues ago and Baldwin ranked right up there with Fleetguard.

baldwin is very good. If that is what is available locally than that is what I would use. I hate getting into brand discussions on here because every single person has there own strong opinion and the truth is there is more than one top quality brand of parts. This is just my opinion and I service caterpillar, john deere equipment and all types of oilfield engines and equipment. I don't claim to be an expert, I certainly didn't start out life to become a mechanic and I don't claim to be a good one but out of neccesity I work on a lot of stuff. I will give a few examples of what I see. Baldwin makes very good filters and that is what is on my dodge (sometimes in other equipment because they are good and available from my local truck parts), napa is in the cat dozer (very good quality). For fuel filters and oil filters in no particular order napa(which is a premium brand), baldwin, wix (my personal fav), etc. Basically what I have personally seen is premium brands do seem to be better than super cheap generic parts. Basically you get what you pay for, if you go super cheap. Baldwin is in the realm of name brand good quality. I wouldn't worry about it.

Any of your Cummins authorized truck shops can sell you fleetguard filters. I'm lucky, there is an MHC Texas Kenworth on my way home from work... . They allow me to buy just one of each, never pressure me to buy a case, and give me the same pricing that I find online. . So, as long as that holds, up, I will buy them there. .

Just buy the whole maintenance kit from Genos and save even more. All you need to know is the year of your truck. If you have questions, call them. They're knowledgeable about both what they sell and our trucks.
