So after reading the recent FASS filter thread, I decided to replace both filters. Donaldson P551001 for the WS and a HF6604 for the primary filter.

While I was bleeding the FASS, I heard the pump tone change and cranked the HF6604 as tight as I could and fuel was running out all over. I ended up having to use a filter wrench to put an additional 2 to 3 full turnes on the filter to get it to seal. This filter has Mexico stamped on it. I've had my FASS for 6 years and never had a problem before including the filter I just unthreaded.

Do you guys think there is a good chance the next time I change my fuel filter, that I will find my FASS threads are boogered up? Does anyone know if replacement parts are available for the FASS if I find the filter nipple is bad?

I'm really sad to see Fleetguard quality go down the gutter. Maybe they don't have all the bugs worked out yet. Either way, pretty sad for a $70 filter and possibly more at my next filter change.

Did you remove the filter to see if the seal was nicked or maybe a piece of what ever was in there or the old seal was stuck to the mount??

I'm pretty anal about stuff. I wiped clean the FASS sealing surface and oiled the new filter seal and everything was good as far as those two things. Pretty sure they had a filter escape quality control. I replace a lot of spin on filters at my day job and never had this issue before.
