What is the correct part # for the oil filter on my 99 24 valve? The one I have is a LF 3349 Fleetguard. I read in another post that the correct filter is a diffrent number and called strataspore, or something like that. Thanks for any help!

The LF3894 is the replacement for the LF3885(??) which is the "old" stratopore #, if I recall. There is a chart on the older posts with all the part # for the filters, belts and some radiator hoses. The filters for the (??) to 99 will be replaced with the y2k and up #'s due to the oil pressure increase.

D Fritz's web site may also have the list or try Geno's Garage and use the #'s from them (they can be cheaper than the Cummins shop prices).

Snyder,

Don`t use the LF-3349. Its for a 12 Valve engine.
You need either one of these:
LF-3894/Oil/Stratapore
LF-3885/Oil/Standard

The Stratapore is a much better filter. I would run one of these.

Snyder,
You should be alright. The only difference in the 24valve filters is a thicker shell, thicker rubber gasket and a heavier threaded nut assembly. If it starts leaking or looks bloated, I`d replace it with a Fleetguard/Stratapore P# LF3894 filter. #ad

From issue 26 of the TDR:

"With the introduction of the Dodge 24 Valve engine, the oil pressure regulator by-pass valve was changed. The result: At start-up when the oil is too cool the pressure is excessive.

In the previous 12 valve engine the oil pressure regulator by-pass valve would direct the oil back into the engine oil pan. After this brief pressure spike, the oil was directed back thru the filter.

With the Dodge 24 Valve and ISB engines, the oil pressure regulator by-pass valve directs oil back to the inlet side of the oil pump. Thus, with cold ambient conditions the extreme pressure is directed to the filter. The pressure spikes necessitated a change to the oil filter canister.

Cummins/Fleetguard/Mopar have released a new filter for the 24 valve engine. As mentioned, oil pressure testing(extreme conditions of high oil pressure/cold temps) has caused the top of the filter housing(threaded nut assembly) to warp. A warped threaded nut assembly could cause oil the leak past the rubber seal. Hence a new part # has been released to the service network"

Ben, the Fleetguard LF3894 StrataPore oil filter superseded the LF3806 StrataPore (first generation case design).

I ordered a fuel/water separator and lube oil filter about a week ago from my Cummins distributor and they sent me a Fleetguard #LF3935 lube filter for my `01 ISB engine. So I called them to verify the correct filter number and the person said that this is the factory replacement filter for my engine. I have heard a lot about the Stratapore and standard filter numbers #LF3894/#LF3885. but no mention of this #LF3935. Maybe since this is a `01 ISB the numbers have changed for production purposes #ad
????I would like to Know if anyone else has heard of or used the #LF3935. I trust the people at Cummins, but just want to know for my own piece of mind. Any info. is good!!

Regards,

Phil

Barracuda, I saw a Fleetguard LF3935 oil filter on one of the NW BOMBers Rams ('99) last Saturday. When I asked him about it he stated that Cummins NW installed it at his last L. O. F. service there. I would assume it is the correct filter although, I'm wondering if this filter replaced the LF3885? If so, for what reason?
