Bought a batch of Fleetguards from Genos a few weeks back.

Went to change the oil and the filter cup socket fits the old Fleetguard just fine, but its too small for the new filters? Luckily I had a strap wrench.

Sign of a QC issue? If it had been another filter, I would have said different sizes of filters... but the same filter requires two different cup sizes?????

I'll probably go back to Wix after these are used up...

I received a few filters from Geno's about a month ago and as soon as I read this thread I went and checked mine. They all seem to be the same size as the cup socket I had purchased about a year ago from Geno's. What part number are the filters you recieved? I don't have a strap wrench so I'd be real unhappy if the cup didn't fit after I drained the oil.

Hey steved, such a deal huh?

This has happened to quite a few lately, I believe Geno's is aware, but not sure of the explanation.

This cup fits every filter I have ever used, except these "standard" Fleetguards.

I have ran Balwins, Purolators, Wixs, and Fleetguard Stratopores, and never had any trouble. It will simply not fit these new "standard" Fleetguards. I was in disbelief, and at first thought it was because of the plastic wrapper, but the can itself is *just* too big (I can't even blame the paint).

I'll go back to another filter before buying another Fleetguard... I don't want to carry two filter cups with me all the time, for just one oddball-size filter.

I think Fleetguard changed the fluted end on the filters for some crazy reason.

Just get a cam action oil filter wrench. Never need another filter wrench.

That wrench you can get anywere (blue-point, craftsman) The reason the filter is changed because the main company that all these filter companies get the filter from (and then put their name on it) changed design of all gas, diesel and hydrulic filters. Smaller, longer, shorter they are trying to get rid of so many filters by for example shorten one just enough that it can fit 2 differant applications and that would eliminate 1p/n and which is less filters to stock
