Tool Man Towing Question ...... Haaaalllllppp!!

thinking of buying this trailer but wanted some input on it. i dont know much about trailers but this one sounds ok. they are asking 4500 its a 89 24' trailer. i dont do much camping yet but am getting ready to build house 60 miles from home now and it would be nice to sleep right there after a hard days work. any input would be great

I was at a dealership that carried Fleetwood campers and another more expensive model and the salesman really badmouth the Fleetwood concerning the construction. Of course he was trying to get me into the unit that sold for twice as much as the Fleetwood.

Mike C,

I looked in my N. A. D. A. RV appraisal guide. This is what I found.

1989 Yukon Series:

M-24P

Low $2,900. 00

Average $3,490. 00

High $3,800. 00

M-24C

Low $3,010. 00

Average $3,620. 00

High $3,950. 00

Hope this helps.

I have an 82 fleetwood resort it to is a 24'er and for the kind of camping I do it's great. It has roof air and a central heat. We have been camping in it well into the month of October and last year it was in the low 30s at nights and it was plenty warm inside and no problems with the tanks freezing up either. You might want to check the corners of the floor for water damage, this is were my local dealer said that all fleetwoods had that problem. The guy I bought mine from said he thought it had about a 100,000miles on it and the only thing I had to replace was the crapper valve and it was a hole $24. Everything else works just fine even the original awning. :) I'm thinking of looking into something bigger next year and will definently look at another fleetwood.

One happy camper

More info

If your buying new, I'd steer away from fleetwood products only because of the large amount of owner complaints I have read.

Used, if in good shape?

Look for RV America then Check owner reviews under the main page.

I have the 1989 Wilderness 24 C. This is a wonderful house. The front kitchen and wide open floor plan is great. I actually had to live in it for a while this spring and found that as stop gap housing it was great.

Bugout gave you good advice. Fleetwood does not have a good reputation in the RV crowd. Poor factory backup, minimal quality. As a stop gap it may be ok but I would not buy one to travel alot with. RV America.com; checvk owner reviews.

My Fleetwood experience with a 1992 Terry Resort 26' fiver is good. It's required some maintenance and sure isn't the ultimate, but good for the price. It was built for light use. Had a spring hanger break (discovered while parked, don't know how far we pulled with it broken), an electrical short on the main buss wire from the battery to the circuit breaker panel that led to the loss of all 12 volt power (that was a manufacuring glitch, wire was pinched somewhere under the floor), and a roof leak at the front seam cured with extra sealant. Only other fix has been the replacement of the spring shackles with heaver ones that include a grease fitting. Those light, OEM shackles don't take a lot of towing. Bought our Terry new and still have it. Figure that it's been towed some 100,000 miles and lived in the equivalent of a full year. Fleetwood seems to like shifting its manufacturing locations around. Our Terry was built at Winchester, VA, a plant now closed. Also have an Avion fiver built in Nebraska, Fleetwood closed that location too and has moved Avion production to Texas. I like the saying "Better is the enemy of good enough. "

It sure helps to have a nearby RV dealer who is competent and can fix things the first time around. We were lucky to have one in Virginia.
