Got the new flex plate installed, had the rear crank seal replaced, put in a new DTT 89% converter, had the front transmission seal replaced, the transmission was checked out with a new filter out in, and new Amsoil installed.

The flex plate I used was a 95, new from Cummins.

Got home yesterday from a road trip and took it for a "spin". :D

Thought the truck was smoking a bit more than usual until I figured it was the tires. Darn things just wouldn't get traction!!

Accelerates harder and seems to hold back a little more when I get off the throttle. RPM is down just about 75RPM at freeway speed when empty, I'm going to say it probably is about the same there. Need to tow the travel trailer and see how that goes and now I guess I'll see if the exhaust brake will work better. The brake has had a intermittent problem that I think is a ground problem but I didn't worry much cause with the old converter it didn't do a lot. I just quit using it. Time to fix it as the tighter converter should help it work better.

My first impression is it is a good fix. Oo.

Whst s good feeling to drive the real truck again. Hope you can place a picture of the damaged flex plate. It would be a treat for all of us. Was really good to visit with you Hugh

I just ordered the new Cummins flexplate from ReliableGoods.com - it was less than $90 shipped. :D It'll be going in when I have the trans rebuilt in a few weeks, along with an aftermarket converter (haven't decided on which one: Hughes, TCI, or another supplier my friend uses - they have a "super heavy duty" converter with a 400 RPM lower stall). Figured while the trans was out I might as well swap in the stronger plate. Can't wait to see how the tighter converter turns out... the stock one is looser than a $2 hooker.

Stan,

I am going to be doing some transmission work on my 89 soon and bought the same HD flexplate from Cummins as you did along with the rear oil seal. The flexplate that's in her now is OK, but I'm not taking any chances.

I bought the TCI Towing converter #142250 from Summit Racing along with a TCI deep alum. pan.

From your experience, it sounds like the results turned out good on the install.

I'm looking forward to what my changes will offer as far as performance/mileage gains

Phil
