Help! My 93 w250 auto may finally be going out. Have 215k miles. Started getting clattering in idle that went away with increase speed. Sounds like noise is coming from bell housing. It sounds like something is loose, but now is really noisey. While I was checking for sound source, shut off. Now truck won't start. Is this the flexplate that I have read about cracking? Or torque converter or transmission? I found some shavings under where truck was that appeared to be aluminum. I guess my real question is what should I check? How have some of you determined what your problem was. Engine cranks, but doesn't start. Before, it would start by barely bumping starter. I don't really dare crank it more after finding the shavings. Any ideas out there, folks. Thanks for any help.

If you pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the bell housing and look up at the flex plate if it's cracked you should be able to tell, i'm on my third flex plate and usually pieces of the plate fell out as soon as the cover came off.

so far i have'nt heard of any heavy duty flex plates being made, and the stock one is realy a pitifull thing ... ... ... Rick D
