LIFT PUMP RELIABILITY-EXTERNAL vs IN TANK

I have an 07 5. 9 ltr that was under water. Fluids all changed within days, water removed from 1 & 6 and treated with atf. Truck set about 3 months then bought changed starter and got started. Ran cruddy to begin with but quickly cleared up. Now, runs good once warmed up but has rotten egg smell to exhaust. When engine cold runs rough and has lots of white smoke. Dealer cleaned fuel tank and fuel system and says fuel flow is correct. Engine was not locked up when initially brought in for servicing.

Any ideas what the problem might be with rough running and white smoke?

Odor could be mold/bacteria growth in the exhaust system from sitting wet for so long.

Are you saying cylinders 1 and 6 were full of water? What about the other 4? What do you mean "treated with ATF"?

If you are smart you will get rid of that truck ASAP as it will never be right. Get it to run half decent and trade it even if you have to take a beating.

It has been under water and all the electronics and wiring soaked. Unless every single electronic component, wiring harness, etc, has been replaced it will never be trustworthy.

I have seen this before on vehicles that have been submerged. Nothing but a nightmare to track the problems down and when you do find one another shows up. Sorry for your loss. :(

depends how cold it is where you're at. If it's freezing, check the grid heaters or relay. I would drain the tank and drive it thru Arizona for 1000 miles to dry it out. Lots of things can go wrong, like u-joint/wheel bearings.

Salt water would be disastrous. Fresh water not so bad.
