What fluid should be used in the transmission and transfer case?

OE reccommends:

NV4500 Transmission: GL4 or SynTorque
NV241 HD Tranfer Case: Dextron II

What grade of Amsoils would be a good swap out? 75x90? Or some other? Same in both? Dextron II seems pretty light for the transfer case...

I did a search and didn't notice anyone mentioning the grade/viscosity... just "switched fluids to amsoils", etc

Mark I am running AmsOil Ser 2000 75W-90 in my trans, front and rear ends and AmsOil ATF in the transfer case.

Hey Mark, I would run Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 in the front differential and Series 2000 75W-140 in the rear differential (if you load your Ram up... 75W-90 if you don't). As for the transfer case, Amsoil ATF+4 (or regular Amsoil ATF) will work very well, so will Red Line D4 ATF or ATF+3. All lubes listed above are synthetic. I currently have Red Line 75W-90 synthetic gear oil in both differentials... before that I had their 75W-140 synthetic gear lube in my rear differential. I experienced ABSOLUTELY NO mileage penalty by using the 75W-140. I will be switching to the Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 in the front/Series 2000 75W-140 in the rear at my next change interval. Hope this helps Mark. #ad

As far as Amsoil ATF in the transfer case, at 35,000 mine looked like new. I may pull a sample next time to see how it compares to new fluid.

Hey Guys! You, running the GL-5 in your trans!
DON'T!
There is a reason, something about the sulfer level in the lube being too high with GL-5. Do a search and/or check (of all things) the Register.
Check my sig for Lube recomendations. #ad
