I just hit the 3,000 mile mark and was wondering if you guys thought I should change the oil or wait till what the book says. I know on some engines they put assembly lube in and you should wait to change the oil. Just want some opinions. I plan on running synthetic as soon as the engine is broken in.

Also should I wait to change the trans, transfer case, and differentials or do it now. If I change those fluids should I go synthetic now or wait longer.

This is just my opinion and I a fanatic when it comes to oil changes. I change oil & filter and lub every 2500 - 3000 miles. I know a lot of folks consider that overkill but that's me. So I say change the oil.

I do let the trans (6 speed), transfer case and differentials go till about 30,000. I beleive the general consensus is the boxes already have synthetic.

Just my $. 02.

ther was a big thread about this subject going around not to long ago. do a search and find that one, every opinion from dumping the factory oil in the dealers parking lot to leaving it in for about a year since, (supposedly), oil from factory something special :-{}

In my case the dealer wanted the truck back at 3K miles to do a free oil change. stated that was about the right time, and anything not exactly right from factory should show up arounf then and they could take care of it! personally, it is your truck and if you are thinking about a change go ahead and do it! just remember the manual does not recomend synthetic oil until it is "broke in", (another good thread define broke in). :--)
